Anaia Regional Map & Claim Thread

I dreadnaut to think what would happen if I had posted in this thread without reading the rules.

I would like to retcon-shrink Mertagne some what, to keep it in line with some minor restructuring I'm doing.

Here's an example of the new borders - I have also compiled a version that fits the same dimensions as the current Anaia Map, which I will send to the cartographer privately to avoid compression issues. Thank you kindly for reading my application.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS & COMMENTS

A lot has happened since the last update, but it feels like it's all largely been positive - Anaia has continued to go from strength to strength, with plenty of new events to keep us all busy, including the second annual Festival of Local Anaian Games & Sports, the first two editions of the Anaian Ice Hockey Championship, and even two separate cases of Anaians getting together in real life to do something they refer to as 'touching grass'. I can't say I'm terribly familiar with what that last one is, but it sounds pretty exciting!
Things have been exciting on the cartographic front as well - we have had six new nations and quite a few expansions and re-alignments of borders. There are also some removals, some of them as nations and users have moved on, but others as a result of recent events where the user behind Cocoabo Forest and Tropanaia has been found to have breached site rules over a long period from 2004 to 2023. This is not a situation that anyone could have anticipated, but the rules state that all claims are ultimately at the discretion of the cartographer, and after a discussion within Anaia where the consensus was that we can no longer trust that this user has good intentions in the region, I have taken the decision to remove those nations from the map and bar any other nations controlled by them from applying in the future.
It's all been a little bit hectic trying to pull this together, and I'm grateful to many Anaians for their help; Mertagne, as always, for giving my chicken scratching a proper look over (and for giving me an roundup of the entire region *in character as MOLES*, which was excellent), to Ko-oren and Krytenia in their capacity as regional officers for their support, and to everyone who helped make sure I got all the details of their claims or alterations right. If I have missed anything out, please do let me know, either via telegram or wherever else you might happen to find me. Otherwise, take care of yourselves and I'll see you at the next update!

Hello,
The United States of Nova Calania claims to be the successor state of Saint-Jean-Jacques et Burnham-on-Stove and we would like to expand our borders! I know, the last map update has been recent but this nation would like to claim more land before someone else claims it.

Are dreadnauts a type of Dyrrhonian cuisine?

- The map scale is guaranteed to be accurate for the Dyrrhonian Isles only.
- The Dyrrhonian Isles as a dieresis (administrative division) has no de jure capital city. The national capital is Arcesius in the Diarcesian mainland (also referenced in a map of another overseas dieresis).

Hello! We'd like to claim the spot outlined in turquoise, please! The turquoise dot shows the location of Pikwee, the capital of Avisora.

We're a relatively small country very fond of nature and preserving our natural resources. Perhaps you can park your dreadnaughts in the bay and enjoy some peace and quiet in our national parks!



(If there were any issues with the size of the nation since I only guesstimated what "less than 1 square" would look like in that spot, can I request the lake be moved a bit closer to the coast so that it can be included within my smaller nation?)

On the southern tip of Nova Calania, the Hapilopper Overseas Territories: Dominion Anaia Maritime Neighborhood claims a small sliver. There, the word "dreadnaut" probably refers to someone who got a little too slam-bang drunk in one of the bars and had to be thrown out. Why? Because it's funny, that's why.

[Kimi-Suomi]

Finally getting around to sorting this out.

Next door to StrayaRoos on the island of Lurhautsia is the Rogue Kingdom of Kimi-Suomi, the land of ice and snow and saunas.
Kimi Kaupunki, the seat of power, has also been highlighted in this cartographical vision.
Off the coast of the mainland, like the Dreadnaut of the seas, sits the Swedish-speaking islands known as the Nordöarna (Pohjoissaaret), which is home to a majority (but not all) of Kimi-Suomi's Fenno-Swedish (Finlandssvenska/Suomenruotsi) population.

(OOC: I know the border is very rough, but I leave any adaptions of the land border to the discretion of the cartographer. If StrayaRoos expresses no desire to share a border, then I shall update this claim accordingly.)

First of all, a thousand apologies to everyone within and without Anaia for how long this has taken. In fairness, there had not been a whole lot to update for some time after version 1.4, but the actual process of redrawing and adjusting boundaries ended up taking longer than I had intended even when there was material to work with. While at times there were excuses to hide behind, a lot of the delay was ultimately down to my own rubbishness and I hope to not make everyone wait another eighteen months before the next update
While Anaia itself has been doing fairly well since the last update - recently celebrating another edition of the Festival of Local Anaian Games and Sports, and the eleventh edition of the CAFA Cup - the same unfortunately cannot be said for the world at large, and the general ambience is unfortunately reflected in the CTE watchlist. In the spirit of the region, though, we are doing our best to pull together and support each other; there are one or two players merely on a short-term break from the game, and the list only reflects those who cannot be contacted or have genuinely retired.
In that vein, I have been grateful to everyone in the region for their support over the last gods only know how long - particularly Mertagne (communications, research, backing vocals, tambourine), Ko-oren (thinking about the World Assembly so we do not have to, bongos), Ochre Islands (moral support, Bez), and Audioslavia (did not actually do anything but is due to have a kid soon so figured I should mention him and wish him luck!). If there are any issues outstanding, please report them to the cartographer (The Plough Islands), either through Discord or in the usual non-Discord manner.

Take care of yourselves and look after each other and the ones you love - my plans are to do just that, by having a nice long nap...

[The Osnari Federation]

Claim here on the central-south coast of Aurora - a continent which, if you think very long and hard and potentially put down a couple shots to assist in that effort, looks very much like certain ill-defined interpretations of the word "dreadnaut". The capital, Suris, is the little yellow dot there.

I had a good time in WC100 and have decided to stick around - I miss RPing and enjoyed writing something that wasn't another email or corporate presentation. I'd like to claim the northwest corner of Nova Calania, including both offshore islands in the screenshot below. The red line represents the eastern border - the part coming up from Huayamarca will represent a river or ridgeline (tbd) with a straight line north from where it ends.



The area shape (and large offshore island) are pretty close to what NMS used to be, and Anaia seems like a good place to settle in and write some fun RPs.

Further to secret negotiations under the Operation Dreadnaut protocol I'd like to reclaim my protobiotic slough and have it drift northward up the the Sea of Champions over the top of ex-Chromatika island, which I understand from Discord discussions ought to have disappeared following some pocket dimension shenanigans, a magic trick, and the lure of Rushmore. Hopefully you can see from my illustration the slough has expanded over the years as it has drifted north to conveniently equate to roughly the same land area as ex-Chromatika. The capital will be The Ancient Rime Marina, abbreviated to Rime, and is marked with an X on the spot - south easterly coastal point. If you need a strong outline of the territory shape to draw from, I have attached the old map in the spoiler which has a decent rendition of the island shape.

Whatever else may have happened, the world shall know that it has been - *checks calendar* - seventeen months and sixteen days since the last update. Let it never be said that Anaians break their promises, at least when it comes to cartographic updates
And, at risk of gilding our lily a little, what an almost eighteen months it has been; aside from multiple editions of the CAFA Cup in soccer - including our both our leanest and fullest yet, with CAFA 13 having seventeen matchdays to CAFA 14's five - we are now embarking on an endeavour unique so far in NationStates Sports; the upcoming celebration of the inaugural CAFA Nations League, along with the creation of the Expo, a region-wide thread to pull together all other sporting endeavours both small and comically large.
This has been a reasonably large update, the cycle of samsara bringing to Anaia new and returning nations as it carries away memories of the past. While putting it together, I realised it has been nearly five years since my first map, and I am grateful for the continued support of the region through the ups and downs of the last half decade; everyone who has been in Anaia since that time has enriched us, which would be too many people to thank (and, frankly, this has probably gone on long enough!), but I would like to use this space to "shout out" The Martian Independent Republic, who gave me the nudge to actually put this together after a long, hot summer of not having picked up a graphics editor in anger. Thankyou all so much for the positive comments and the vote of confidence in my abilities, and here's to another five years at least of meandering boundaries and neon pixels!
