Opinion Research Survey Number One

This poll was conducted by measuring the number of Senators who voted in the last round of voting. Before any of you pedantics grab at my throat, this is the best way of doing things. There would be no way to measure opinion otherwise.

The question polled was this.

"If an election for the government of Elizia were to be held tomorrow, who would you vote for?"

The results were as such.

Liberal Democrats/Chinese Interests Party/Federalist Party (Coalition) - 45.1% (14/31)
Elizia First/Path to Harmony (Coalition) - 16.1% (5/31)
Labour/National Worker's Party (Coalition) - 12.9% (4/31)
Social Liberal Party - 9.7% (3/31)
Others and Independents - 9.7% (3/31)
National Islamic Party - 3.3% (1/31)
Elizian National Congress - 3.2% (1/31)

This result clearly shows the governing coalition a full twenty-nine points ahead of the Official Opposition, and miles ahead of the rest. No doubt the results may have been skewed due to the Lib Dems' uncanny ability to get the vote out, but this sure is a one-sided result that would certainly mean the NC and other opposition parties reduced to rumps in the new Senate.

As this was the first poll, there were no changes from previous weeks - however, it will be interesting to see how the new Elizia First leader, Raharjo Iskandar-Bambang, faces in the next set of polls.

Actually, I found this.

Opinion Research Survey Number Zero

This poll was conducted by measuring the number of Senators who voted in the last round of voting. Before any of you pedantics grab at my throat, this is the best way of doing things. There would be no way to measure opinion otherwise.

The question polled was this.

"If an election for the government of Elizia were to be held tomorrow, who would you vote for?"

The results were as such.

Liberal Democrats/Chinese Interests Party/Federalist Party (Coalition) - 40.6% (13/32)
Elizia First/Path to Harmony (Coalition) - 28.1% (9/32)
Social Liberal Party - 12.5% (4/32)
Labour/National Worker's Party (Coalition) - 6.3% (2/32)
National Islamic Party - 6.3% (2/32)
Elizian National Congress - 3.1% (1/32)
Others and Independents - 3.1% (1/32)

This means that from the week before to last week...

LD/ChIP/FP +4.5%
EF/PtH -12%
SLP -2.8%
LAB/NWP +6.6%
NIP -3%
ENC +0.1%
OTH/IND +6.6%

I was bored so I decided to do one of Merizoc's composition diagrams with independents added in as well. I'll leave the official, party groupings-only one to Merizoc.

Image

National Workers' Party - 9
Labour Party - 6
Path to Harmony - 12
Elizia First - 11
National Islamic Party - 3
Elizian National Congress - 3
Social Liberal Party - 8
Independents - 12
Chinese Interests Party - 9
Liberal Democrats - 20
Federalist Party - 5

I put the independents at what I considered to be the political centre of the current senate - with the Lib Dem coalition to the right and all other parties to the left.

That would put us just barely to the left of center. All this talk about SLP being an oddball radical party, and we get put just barely to the left.

Are we radicals or are we centrists?

Considering the diagram has the NIP left of you, I don't imagine it's based entirely on ideology.

Well I never called you a radical, but there is such a thing as radical centrism (I'm aware this isn't the same thing as what you mean, but I thought it was worth pointing out.

LAB/NWP - 15
SLP - 9
NIP - 3
ENC - 3
IND - 12

Leaving us with 50 seats needed for a majority, and the LD/ChIP/FP in first place, seventeen seats short of an overall majority.

Westminster-style chamber, organised according to party grouping. Independents are counted as crossbenchers.

Following the SU-SLP merger, the SLP now has 9 members.

EDIT: well shit looks like i messed up lab/nwp numbers, they should have 12 more people

Independents that vote are few and far between, which is why I tend not to count them. When they whip hard, parties can usually get about similar voting percentages, but nobody whips independents,

Yeah I agree that counting independents isn't the best representation of the senate, I just wanted to see how things would look with them in.
