Quick question: Is there one mod who hasn't been playing since "literally" (according to the forum timekeeping) before recorded history? I just see the existing mods constantly promoted while few people (all of them also old guard) are added to the ranks, so I would guess ten years from now there will probably be fifteen site admins and no regular moderators

In all seriousness, if the mods want to avoid another PR crisis they shouldn't be glorifying most of that stuff. If anything, it's encouraging abuse of power by literally making a (jokey) competition to ban/delete/edit as much as possible.

a quick look yields many; perhaps half.

I really don't feel like this is glorifying; it's good fun, and I'm quite sure that this little thread is hardly going to be the reason a mod decides they'll lean towards action throughout their thousands of actions. It'd be like people turning on their air conditioners for a drink from the condensation; it doesn't make much sense in proportion.

Some of the Mods aren't Antiquity nations, or at least their mod nations weren't created back in Antiquity (Sedge, Farn, Mall...).

I'm sure Mods would be thrilled if there wasn't a need for them to keep enforcing the rules, and it's not like they would about deleting nations just to add points. They are better than that.

At any rate, I'm not opposed to mods doing their jobs, and though I have some concerns about overreach of authority and lack of oversight that's not the biggest problem. It's the gerontocracy of the whole system that is suspect. The upper boards on the whole are pretty cliquey and old-guard, too, which in my conspiracy-minded head supports my hypothesis that the mods care more about them than the general boards and their generally newer "population" (though they have their own problems with ochlocracy).

Not really. In terms of time served if you will I joined NS in 2005 and was modded in 2009 (5 years as a Mod... Dear God). So no, it's not old guard or antiquities, it's very much a matter of what we need and who fits the bill.

Again, what do we need and who fits the bill. Generally speaking though, newer nations are not going to get as much of a look at simply because we need to know what we're getting. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing 2010+ Mods sooner or later, there's some really good posters out there.

The same thing that explains why your nation's creation date isn't pre-2010: real life. Remember that they're all volunteers. They don't get paid to police this site and forum.
