i like the Braves, but I happen to live near Boston, which is why I'm stopping at the Red Sox game tonight.

On a related note, my train just got into Boston, so I'm off for a while.
Have a good one NSG.

I also tend to use online dictionaries if I'm not entirely certain about the meaning of a word.

But... that analogy doesn't work. The different parts of Frankenstein's monster aren't that different.

I dare to suggest that my analogy actually does work, since all sources mentioned provided me with the parts of my personal knowledge of the English language. But I can see why the various 'data carriers' mentioned make said analogy a bit confusing. I'll try harder next time.

It all comes down to how the language is taught. Here, grammar and spelling in english is primary school stuff, while secondary school is for drilling poetry and Shakespear into your head. As for french, grammar and spelling was the main aspect of the subject right up until graduation. It's why most people sound terribly formal when speaking a second language.

The proper use of formal English can sometimes be a distinct advantage, since it gives readers the illusion you're a more civilized person than the dimwits that made the mistake of confronting you in an internet discussion.
