-Commonwealth News Service, Vol. 2019 Iss. 344, 10 December 2019

In the Palmyrian military, soldiers are trained against unhealthy emotional and mental habits - and regular platoon-level bull sessions, aimed originally as debriefing, self-criticism, and criticism sessions for the platoon (a practice they borrowed from the NVA and PAVN of Vietnam War fame, and initially used in the 4th Civil War), provide enormous opportunities for emotional catharsis among one's platoon-level comrades, which soldiers usually take advantage of frequently.

Thus it is a ridiculous, though understandable, thing to say that Palmyrian soldiers are crybabies - ridiculous because this is a hasty misconception of Palmyrian military culture based on surface-level analysis and hasty conclusions, and understandable because of the (unhealthy) sociocultural expectation that men are supposed to be emotionally hard and unexpressive.

Quite an interesting idea and seems to be working well

The Union of Socialist States when the eastern portion of the Western United States was administered and occupied by Soviet forces following the end of World War II. The Union of Socialist States was established in the Soviet zone, while the Federal Republic was established in the three eastern zones. The Union consist of the states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington. The Union is a satellite state of the Soviet Union, governed by the Socialist Unity Party (SED), though other parties nominally participate. The SED made the teaching of Marxism–Leninism and the Russian language compulsory in schools. The government fortified its eastern borders and, in 1961, built the Iron Curtain along the Rocky Mountains, many people have spent large amounts of time imprisoned for attempting to escape.

How positively dystopian.

Among the Servants, the individuals who achieve the rank of 'Avatar' are some of the most phenomenally powerful adherents to the True Way of the Will. Some form of psychological quirk causes them to be particularly adept at manifesting the powers of the will, whether it comes from an enhanced sense of self or simply from having a particularly strong force of will. In all cases, Avatars are just shy of the Tutelaries themselves in terms of raw combat power.

However, this does not come without a cost. Each of these psychological quirks tends to have some kind of drastic psychological or neurological side effect that often forces the Tutelaries to keep them on a very short leash both for the protection of the Avatar and for the sake of other adherents. Some avatars are narcissistic, others are megalomaniacal, and some are even full-blown homicidal psychopaths. Others might be missing some kind of sense, such as the capacity to see or hear, though these are considered the lucky ones. Sensory disabilities are easily remedied in Servant society (the awareness skill can be used to allow a person to see or hear using their other senses, such as touch).

General Achaedus is a rare example of an Avatar whose glaring neurological side effect is relatively inconsequential in terms of combat capability: he is functionally illiterate. Some quirk of his neurology provides him with a perfect memory, and a remarkable capacity to visualize the information presented on maps (and exploring all the locations marked on a map and keeping such things up to date is something of a hobby of his), but also prevents him from being able to make any sense of written words. Attempts have been made to rectify this issue, but while he can identify the meaning of individual icons and symbols, he has no capacity to string letters into actual words. An odd side note: though his ability to attach meaning to combinations of letters is nonexistent, he suffers no difficulty whatsoever in mathematical proofs.

If Achaedus needs something read, Prime Archivist Balmothere or one of his underlings is often close at hand to provide necessary assistance.

There's a large and committed hatedom of most anime -especially the saccharine cutesy kind with lots of sexual themes- in our country. Mostly because of the way our kinfolk in Japan are treated and the submissive and over-sexualized way our ethnicity is portrayed. That and due to general cultural dissonance and cliches we tend to find very annoying.

The hatedom itself can be considered spiteful or playful depending on the way you look at it, as the enormous anti-fan community has a penchant for making animations of their own that parody existing anime...usually done in a poorly animated style on purpose. So there are many 2D or 3D "fanimations", and often with surreal content described as being comparable to "fever dreams" which sometimes border on dark comedy meant to exploit and subvert the cuteness/sexiness of the original Japanese content, or it's used to make serious themes meaningless and absurd.

To be fair it'd make sense. Given how "neko" are represented in Anime, if Neko existed in real life, they too would hate the concept of anime in general. That said, I find the idea of 'fanimation' interesting and would like to subscribe to what you speak of :p

The Order of Twenty-Nine, by most accounts the oldest Knightly Order in Frisia, was originally founded by the Twenty-nine Knights who fought as his bannermen in his campaigns uniting most Frisian lands under a Frisian banner (for obvious reason, the North Frisians were not included in this newly-created realm). These twenty-nine knights, which include his brother (and later, successor as King of the Frisians) Ijsbrecht I, informally referred to their "thing" as the Order of the Twenty-Nine and continued to pretend they were an important aspect of the Frisian Realm while they held nearly no political power. While not formally a knightly order, the organization grew in numbers, going from 29 in 900 to 133 in 1013, when they build their first castle, Kastiel Noardfal near what is OTL Bensersiel in Germany. There, they officially rebranded themselves as the Order of St. Alfbad (henceforth, its knights would be known as Knights of [the Order of St.] Alfbad), and were one of the first who answered Ijsbrecht's call during the Danish-Frisian War, the Great Crusade, and later William's Rebellion.

I generally disapprove of freemasonry, but I truly hope the Order has a positive effect on Frisia Magna.

Since the 1970s, non-kosher foods have been subject to high tariffs, which has affected the availability of certain foods, especially pork and shellfish (both heavily consumed in the region prior to Shtet). Food regulation includes kosher preparation of food, such as separation of meats and dairy products. During Pesach week, when leavened foods are prohibited for observant Jews, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food temporarily transfers the possession of all leavened products to the Jewish-German Friendship Association in Berlin. Also during Pesach, many farming kibbutzim and urban bakeries cease the production of leavened goods in favour of matzo and leaven-free products.

Good to see religion impacting laws like that....too many countries have abandoned it. While I don't really agree with the non kosher thing being a Christian I certainly can vouch that most of the diets in the bible are very healthy so congrate on applying old laws and getting great results.

It's a knightly order. You know, like a Crusader Military Order. Freemasonry doesn't exist in feudal age:/

More power to those gallant warriors. Their legacy is something to be proud of for their descendants. I don't know if the Order still exists, but their legacy is gallant nonetheless.

In Palmyrion, the legality of same sex marriage is defined in a 2017 Supreme Court ruling stating that "married same sex couples and same sex marriages will be under the coverage of the rights, responsibilities, and privileges defined in the Familial Code of 1990".

The OOC-me completely agrees with that decision. My nation's leader would find it doubly offensive:
1. He believes marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
2. Courts in this nation have no power to change laws or interpret them contrary to the government's intentions.

Education is not a priority at all for Afonso Salazar's government. Reading and writing are only a means to an end: indoctrinating the citizens in Catholic and nationalist values. Secular academic subjects (sciences, literature, philosophy, etc.) are heavily frowned upon—they're seen as a waste of time and resources, especially at the primary and secondary school levels. This is why, for example, students in Latin class learn nothing but Bible verses and church publications, while secular writers like Cicero and Virgil are completely ignored. Or why many people can't multiply 10 by 10 without a calculator.

In addition, some subjects are strictly off-limits for academia, particularly anything that might weaken the Catholic Church's teachings. The two most famous examples are Darwin's On the Origin of Species (for supporting evolution) and Copernicus' De revolutionibus orbium cœlestium (for supporting heliocentrism)—professors have been arrested for quoting these and other banned works, or for teaching ideas that the government finds objectionable. The reasoning goes: those who are kept ignorant and blindly accept everything as the will of their Creator, are much less likely to stir up trouble, than those who constantly challenge authority and ask why. That's the basis for Salazar's "War on Science".

How utterly criminal. We’d usurp the government just to fix the schooling system.

Though their capacities depend on ‘faith’ or purity of conviction, the Servants and the Shirassi as a whole are avowedly atheist. To them, the idea of an ‘all powerful god’ or similar entity is insulting. That said, they do revere the tutelaries in much the same way as one would pay homage to a deity, but this is seen as a symbiotic relationship. Their belief strengthens their tutelary, and it in turn reinforces their capabilities.

They also tend to use significant amounts of religious iconography in their art, but on a more ironic level.

AAN: That strikes me as the best possible way to turn the country into a run-down backwater. One would expect him to at least have the sense to mix political indoctrination in with important fields of study instead of deliberately running his people into the ground for the sake of greater control; after all, what good is control over a country if it's completely gutted and powerless?

AN: Ironically enough, despite considering themselves theocratic with rulers holding religious titles and the priesthood being integrated into the government, that's actually very similar to how the Vaenari view their Pantheon. And also to some extent how Khoronzonites view their God, though the relationship is much more one-sided in favour of the people, since the Void-Being doesn't really care. That's a different nation, though, and I'm supposed to be talking about Empyrius.

In Empyrius' world, "magical" abilities are derived from ethereal spirit beings, which exist in vast numbers and are classified in a hierarchical fashion from weak and ubiquitous wisps to extremely rare and powerful Gods. Most surface-dwelling peoples form cooperative, symbiotic relationships with spirits in order to gain access to such abilities, but the Vaenari of Empyrius, with their extensive knowledge and long history of magic use as well as their significant technological advantage, make use of relatively weak classes of spirit beings in a very different way - essentially farming them en masse in dedicated facilities in which they are "cloned", broken down, and harvested into the city's reserve, which is then distributed among the citizenry. This practice has resulted in relations that can at best be described as "highly tense" with many of the more shamanistic surface races, who see it as an evil abomination amounting to senseless murder, which is somewhat true since many of the spirits involved possess a certain degree of sapience.

So industrialized mana harvesting with the obvious cost of mass birth and death of a particular species is of course very problematic when you are looked at as nothing more than food or in this case as a battery. At the very least my nation would not be able to object much considering that what you are doing may in fact be necessary for your nation's livelihood. For such is the way of nature.

In Tundra Terra and in nations (under siege or not) surrounding the borders have enclaves of the Cult of Molten Tears. The Cult was founded by non-Tundran survivors of the famous Battle of Molten Tears which involved the death of ranging in the millions to 3 billion people in 4 separate nations. Being broken by the war refugees sought shelter among the victorious Tundrans and were instead cast out for their pitiful efforts or states of being. However, the Tundrans if anything are scavengers and craftsmen in their hearts for War Hound saw an opportunity to salvage the people. All men and women before becoming full citizens had to undertake the Trials and for these non-engineered people the story became the same. Thus began the birth of War Trials for the defeated if they wished to join Tundran society they had to pass tests, reshape their very minds/soul for war, and be assimilated fully down to the genetic bio-enhanced level. For many this offers the potential to be like superhuman in comparison to their fellow man, a life where war is constant, a life among one of the most kinship focused cultures, a life in perhaps the most secure lands, the greatest of food or medical services unseen in their past lives, and perhaps finally if not the most important: the possibility to settle in newly conquered lands to thrive for oneself or for your family. The Cult both promises and often delivers onto them such salvation because it must be earned by proving oneself useful, committed, and most importantly...not pathetic.

96.3% of Eurasians live in cities. Cities usually range greatly in size, from a few hundres thousand people all the way up to Moscow at 2.2 billion people. The reason nearly no Eurasians reside in rural areas is because of the massive nuclear battles that ensued in central Asia and central Siberia during the Fourth Russian Civil War. Much of the land is lawless wasteland, and is roamed by Razbojniki(разбойники, robbers/outlaws/highwaymen), which ride around the wastelands in usually black-painted or rusted cars, raiding the towns that are left and robbing travelers(Think a western genre except its the 2110s with PMT tech). Most towns are built on the ruins of destroyed towns and cities. The only city in the wastelands is Novosibirsk, with a population of around 295,000. The few major trade routes in Eurasia between Europe and Asia pass through this city. These trade routes are patrolled regularly, so razbojniki do not usually go near them or rob anyone using them.

We don't care so much about religiousness of some military groups.

Lech XXI wasn't happy in his childhood. His father, Mirosław III (king of Vulgaria) was abusing and hardening him. He taught his sons to hunt the animals, fight with sword and axe etc. Nothing would be wrong if it wasn't for the fact that he was very Graznavo-phobic (because during the Seventh Bermudinian War (1907-1915) in Graznavia occupied by Feldenberg, there was created a terrorist chauvinist group collaborating with Feldenberg, called the Graznavian Rebel Clan who were killing Vulgarians (they killed over 10000 of them) in very brutal ways (but also Graznavians who helped Vulgarians and gave them shelter and from mixed families) what forced Mirosław's relatives to escape from Wamaciów (their familiar city) through the mountains of Wa Mać. But fortunately, that group weren't supported by a lot of Graznavians. Their rituals were similiar to KKK's rituals in RL.) Prince Lech when he was going to school, some day he felt in love with two Graznavian girls (Krzesisława and Jerosława). When his father found out about it, he had forbidden him to approach to them. He was always punishing physically his son for breaking the ban. When he was adult, he married Krzesisława when he was 19, and Jerosława when he was 25 in the forests in the mountains of Wa Mać. They had a secret house in there and they were raising their children. But in 1983 when his father Mirosław III turned out that his son broke the ban, he tried to kill Lech! But fortunately Lech won the duel with his father and came to power. Three years later Vulgaria and Graznavia have been united into the Vulgaro-Graznavian Commonwealth.

Not uncommon for those in charge of nations to have such a rough upbringing. Adversity can bring out the best or perhaps the worst in all of us.

The Empire's bad record of diplomacy hasn't changed under the Alician regime. The most recent example is when, as a treat, the governor of an independent colony was invited on a walk with the Empress through the Forest of War (Famous for its cannibalistic beasts and disappearances). During the walk the Empress spared no detail of the Forests reputation, sending the governor into a panic. As the governor scrambled excuses as to why he needed to leave he stepped off the path to which the Empress, trying to hide her amusement, warned him to return to her side. The governor ignored her and took several more steps off path before a loud snarl could be heard not too far away. Now unable to stifle a laugh the Empress turned away as he was subsequently dragged away and likely mauled to death.

Once the colony he represented heard they immediately proclaimed the danger of such a walk through the Forest. The Empire responded with a curt "And?"

We could have a few Lancers go in and clean that forest up for ya...

Servants do not bury or burn the dead. Due to their timeless nature, they have no need for cemeteries or crematoria within their territory. The only corpses that arise in their presence are more often than not enemy soldiers. The reason for this is a traditional adage of 'The Dead Stay Where They Fell'. To the Servants, whatever constitutes a person's mind, or soul, or consciousness, or whatever one's culture might call that 'spark', has fled the corporeal body and gone wherever it is that such things go. To the Servants, this is something that they actually envy, as such people have attained a level of freedom from the constricting laws of the universe in a way that they cannot easily match. They also feel that such individuals no longer care what happens to their bodies, and so it would be better to leave the body where it lies as a monument to that person's ascension.

As an extension to this rule,: Whenever a planet is brought into the fold, if such is done through military means, any survivors of the usurped civilization are allowed to continue the remainder of their natural lives if they so choose, or they can choose to join the Eternal Crusade. If they choose to keep their 'childish things', the Servants will stress that while such people will be respectfully treated, they are forever locked in place upon that world. As the other nation has died on that world, all who were a part of that nation are seen as part of that nation's corpse, and the dead stay where they fell.

Thank you for that god-tier response. Seriously, what's the bloody point if all you're going to say is "I don't care"?

AN: That's actually a pretty dark -if intriguing- fact. So basically "leave the dead where they die" also attributes to the people of a "dead nation"? And what happens to said people after they decide to remain?

After his victory in Denmark, Ijsbrecht was dubbed Paragon in the North by Pontifex Sylvanus IV in a speech where he was brought to be "an exemplar of Belator's rage and Misericordes's grace". While this was a honorific and not meant to be hereditary, it was deemed so, and when Alfbad became King after his father, he began the tradition of using Exemplar Septentrionalis or Paragon in the North (Sorry for bad latin, if it's wrong tell me and I'll fix it.) as part of the Frisian King's regal address.

It only makes sense that a monarch would wish make tribute to their predecessor’s legacy and adopt such a title. Not only would it make the monarchy seem more prestigious and seasoned but it also sounds pretty dank if you ask me.
It is sometimes difficult to tell whether a Rhufeiniwr (English: Roman) is a Celtic pagan or adherent of Sol Invictus. Multiple ceremonies, practices and iconography have been carried over to Sol Invictus by its Celtic faithful in a similar manner to the Christianisation of pagan tribes around Europe whose practices remain today. There is also a kind of brotherly solidarity between Celtic pagans and Solarian faithful due to the shared opposition to Christianity and the staunch retaining of their beliefs. However, Sol Invictus is the state religion and enjoys direct funding from the government to continue its missionary work abroad and at home.

AN: Sun Worship, huh?

Don't worship too much, you'll go blind.

Interesting fact is actually an extension prompted by the response to my previous fact.

As previously mentioned, they would be permitted to live out the remainder of their natural lives in relative comfort. Any children born to such individuals however are considered Servants, and treated accordingly. That is: communal childrearing under the Servants. Those who do not turn over such children immediately learn very swiftly how 'protective' the Sentinels can be of what they consider to be 'their children'.

Childrearing is very assholish!

During the Seventh Bermudinian War (1907-1915), when Vulgaria and Graznavia were still separate countries, Feldenberg conquered the Graznavia and started a war with Vulgaria (Feldenberg occupied 25% of this country in 1911-1912). In Graznavia occupied by Feldenberg there was created a chauvinist terrorist group called the Graznavian Rebel Clan collaborating with Feldenberg. Fortunately, that group wasn't supported by a lot of people. GRC wanted to create a more terrains of the "free" Graznavia. During the war with Vulgaria, they killed over 10000 Vulgarians in very brutal ways and the other were forced to escape from their familiar cities. GRC's victims were also Graznavians who helped or gave shelter to Vulgarians or living with them in mixed families. In Vulgarian occupied lands and on the former Vulgaro-Graznavian border there was created an insurgent group called "The Fist of the Freedom" which fought GRC but also commitet the revengal mass murder acts on Graznavian civilians. They killed over 12500 Graznavians. Both groups were disbanded after the Seventh Bermudinian War. The King of Graznavia in 1943, Jerosław VII apologized for war crimes commited by GRC and later the relations of Vulgaria and Graznavia were improved. When the Vulgaro-Graznavian Commonwealth started to exist, the first decree which was issued in 1986, punishing the stirring up the Vulgarians against Graznavians or Graznavians against Vulgarians with public flogging, cutting off the tounge or death penalty (depends how much that will outrage the people).

Grade A nonsense, that one. How dare people raise kids? Uh.

I'd say that a nation with a most popular sport involving using an executed convict's head as the ball and allowing the killing of other players is likely one that the servants would have no problem whatsoever with leaving where it dies, when it dies.
