Any Monarchists on NS?

Postby The Irish Marchlands » Fri Oct 01, 2010 5:54 pm

Something I had been wondering, I'm an Irish Monarchist playing NS and it wasnt till now that I got curious, *after seeing the fascism is best government type thread*, Anyone else or am I horrifically alone?
For RP purposes my nation has 16 million people.
Militarily, the standing military forces amount to a 10th of the population, 1,600,000 with a substantial amount of the civilian population trained due to an Opt Out national service and a Jingoistic national attitude.

Are we talking a true monarchy or a wishy-washy UK monarchy where the monarch doesn't actually do anything but eat money?

I think it's an anachronism, but it's sure better than places becoming an independent republic.

I'm quite supportive of an absolute monarchist government type. Unfortunately the places in the world with them are blooming ****ing mental and all of the other monarchs are weakened by democratic reforms because they didn't have the strength to hold up their crown.

Looking at the places with absolute monarchies... like, you know, Saudi Arabia and Qatar... no <_<

Though I do think the English Queen should remain as she is. The tourism revenues from the Royal Family are stronger than the tax credits they get from us, so... whatever!

ctually Most European Monarchies became Republics after WWI largely because of American Influence in the post war negotiations, the irony would be if Russia had not become communist, the Russians would likely have prevented the axis powers from losing or weakening their monarchies after they lost. They'd still pay reparations out the wazoo though.

As I recall, the UK's monarchy costs each British citizen something like 2 pence per year to support. Meanwhile, they bring in millions in tourism each year.

In terms of my own stance on monarchy, I feel that autocracy is a bad idea. However, a constitutional monarchy, one where the monarch has actual power, can be beneficial to the state. Having somebody with a long-term interest in the health of the state, who doesn't have to play to popular sentiment to get elected, is, I feel, a good idea. Suitably checked by other branches of government, of course.

And preferably with some mechanism for removing the more insane monarchs without having to resort to...ahem..."Hemorrhoids," which are the official cause of death for no less than two Russian monarchs.
I AM DISAPPOINTED

Why should I pay taxes for people to be better than the rest?

British tax payers (primarily the working class) pay to feed and clothe those worthless leeches on society that serve no purpose at all.
Just seems like such an absurd concept to begin with... But I guess history and culture are the justifications, as per usual

In this picture, probably enough to pay for any budget shortfall in the UK. (hyperbolic I know but seriously)

European Monarchies pre WWII:
Germany
UK
Denmark
Sweden
Norway
Romania
Bulgaria
Serbia
Greece
Austria-Hungary
Luxembourg
Belgium
Liechtenstein
Russia

There may be others, but I think only three of those Monarchies collapsed during/after the war, and none of those had any thing to do with US influence.

The same argument could easily said for basically every publicly funded art gallery or museum in existence, except that they tend not to bring in the same amount of money the royal family does.
