As a Canadian with no horse in this fight, I don't think the US capital should be relocated.

If the people in Congress want something more convenient, they should just go fully online, and operate via Skype or whatever it is that everyone's using to meet virtually in these times. That way, they would never have to leave their constituencies, the Capitol can be turned into a museum dedicated to American political history, and Congress' work of... whatever it is can continue entirely unimpeded by travel times.

Completely wrong. First, i never said outright I wanted it moved (I just said I thought it would be a good idea). The primary reason I think its a good idea is not so much politics as geography; the US has expanded across the North American continent, and Washington's current location was more central in the 1790s than it is in the 2020s. I also suggested we move it in order to build an entirely new city for it, a city that could be based on modern engineering and planning rather than the old methods used in the late 18-th century. I made this thread primarily so people could discuss why they think its a good or bad idea, not why I think its a good or bad idea.

Washington DC was built on a drained swamp that perhaps will be flooded out with enough sea level rise from climate change. Anyone got any suggestions for the new capital if the flooding scenario did come to pass and much of the current east coast along with Florida was underwater? The current capital is only the 22nd largest city in the US. Above Boston but smaller than Detroit. I do think that it probably will get moved one of these days.
