Plenty of leftist systems have worked fine tbh. There's a very good argument to be made that the only reason the USSR stagnated and fell is because GosPlan got taken over by a bunch of boomers who refused to move the economy into the future and thought just continually focusing on heaving industry like it was the 1930's would be fine ad infinitum.
