HP? Won’t touch those with a 100 foot pole.

I forget the model; it was a engineering grade laptop (for work). Replaced inside of a year: The drive; the display twice; the case twice; and the keyboard three times. Switched over to the Dell equivalent and nothing had to be replaced.

My kid got herself an hp touch screen (a couple years ago) and it required repairs which needed to be shipped back a couple times. She has a gaming system now ( forget the name at the moment) which she uses for school (she wants to be in gaming or animation). About a year and no issues.

I think every Dell i have owned has had issues with the power supply.

My work laptop is a surface pro something or other and it kills me to say it, but it is the best laptop I have ever owned.

IE 11 was by far the best browser at the time. It was fast, it was crisp, it was minimal and it had unique (and useful) functionalities.

Edge is just, and always has been, bad.

Hehe, one of my many reasons for using it is laziness. No need to bother with antivirus. No need to ever reinstall. No need to install crappy drivers when switching hardware. Just two commands (or a few clicks) to update all the software at once, system and applications.

Depends on the computer. I've had to put Ubuntu on my HP Stream two or three times. I think the original update to the beaver version worked internally, though.

Oh Dell does have it’s crap. The laptops; there were two lines. One for corporate and one for home. The home line was crap. Companies bought them because they were cheaper. Mine didn’t as for some reason that though engineers should have good equipment.

Yeah, sure, whatever you say guys. You'd think someone presenting themselves as a tech journalist might pretend to be interested in the actual OS, instead of whatever beta GUI is or is not representative of the final product that we won't see for years.

That's why I said "supposedly." Linking to something interesting doesn't mean I accept it as true. It's something that pertains to this topic that I happened to read.

I already don't like the looks of it. Like I said, I'm not interested in a different user interface or a mobile/Apple Mac inspired one. There should be settings included to change it how you want it to be. I have hopes for the future, whatever does come to pass.

As a Windows 10 User, I am fine with this change, I mean, the computer I am using right now would probably die hardware-wise and I will already have graduated from high school by then so since I use this computer for school (and NS) purposes, by the time Windows 10 is retired, Windows 10 would not be of use to me anymore. Though I'll feel bad for the kids using Windows 10 born after me. That will be a problem they will have to face.
I will no longer be using NS Stats (as I developed my own stats outside of NS) and I will no longer be answering NS Issues, all current NS Policies are canon

Even if support dies, the operating system will not become dangerous to use right of way, so people do have time to prepare.

And here I thought they said that Windows 10 will be a service and will serve for many years... or something along those line. Details are fuzzy and I could not be bothered to check now, but I remembered when they said Windows 10 users will get updates for quite a long time. In short, yeah, I am one of those weird ones who thought it would be that version of Windows for perhaps a decade or two.

Though to be fair, Windows 10 was first released in July 2015, so... wow, that is already 6 years.

Well, we don't know when the new Windows is coming in... we've got a four year warning about Windows 10 only. And, in some ways, that's pretty short. What used to happen was that they'd bring in the new version, e.g. Vista, and all new computers would pretty quickly be preloaded with that... and then years later support for the old version would wind down. And some people would try and transition their hardware to the new OS, which, honestly, sounds stupid to me... but that's because I've read lots of retrospectives about people trying to put Vista on computers that couldn't handle Vista (or were unable to take advantage of the OS) and thus contributing to Vista's terrible reputation (as I said in the OP, if you looked at Vista on brand new computers still on the shelf, it was fantastic).

Like, I need to see if I can get the old laptop to start up in case I have a song on it that I know I had (but which is on neither my datastick nor this computer, strangely) but aside from updating to Windows 8.1 when I got it (from Windows 8\) second hand, I never took up the opportunity to upgrade that to Windows 10. Why would I? It worked perfectly fine and, honestly, I liked the level of personalisation available to it.

Other than outdated security (which can be eventually rectified if they support it, or just don't connect that machine to the Internet), I actually do miss Windows XP. A LOT more customisation too, like you can change the font of the UI without using Winaero Tweaker or something like that.

OTOH this is basically the same length of time that XP had as the Windows version. Windows 7 and 8 had three years, and that's basically similar (or longer) than 95, 98 and 2000. (Vista was introduced in early 2007 and 7 late 2009, so it was basically 3 years as well.) So, whether or not Microsoft actually stuck with the intentions of Windows 10 is quite unclear. Relative to the 90s, it's had an extremely long shelf-life but if we look at the noughties, it's really just a normal lifecycle.

I misread the thread title at first, I thought for a minute it said "Windows 10 to be Retarded."

Q. What's the worst Micro$oft product ever? A. The next one.

I missed that part in the article, thanks!

Part of me wonders why they are discontinuing Windows 10. Was it just the usual reasons, or were they afraid that Windows 10 won't be able to handle 64-cores, or above, down the line?

From the article: "And Microsoft says its successor will represent one of the "most significant updates" to the OS in the past decade."

And as someone who used a Windows Phone and got screwed over, yeah... I heard that song and dance before.

I hope so. Microsoft is just Pulling the Windows 10 Quickly off the use, just like (for Example), Nintendo is Pulling out the Switch out of the Market and Stopped Supporting It. i hope Microsoft Sued for this because their Decision was Anti-Consumer.

By the Meaning of Anti-Consumer and Windows 10's Out of Support, Windows 10 has been Mainly used by the Majority of People, whatever in your Workplace, in School or in your Home. If Microsoft has Decided this, then Many People would be left out, because they have no Money to Upgrade to Windows 11, and if they have, they don't have any time to Upgrade their Computer with Windows 11 or Fearing that their Files might be Lost (However, it is Common for Computer Users Reformatting their Computer or Upgrading into a Newest Version of Windows). That is Anti-Consumer and Microsoft should be sued for this, However, if Microsoft said that Sticking with Windows 10 is just Wasting their Money, we Understand but Microsoft should Extend the Security Updates and Support for Windows until 2030 or Further.

Comparing it to Nintendo, when they Decided to shut down their Paid Online Service, or the Nintendo Switch Online, or even Pulling the Switch out of the Market, it is Considered to be not just Anti-Consumer, but also it is their Mistake. Gamers think that Microsoft is Consumer-Friendly but when it came to Technology in Computers, Microsoft just wanted to Cancel Windows 10. For us, why not suing Microsoft or Making an Petition to Microsoft to Extend the Life of Windows 10?
