I were Facebook I would decide something like a 15 years or 20 years ban is the maximum penalty. It's not like it would matter much for Trump case, it would de facto be a life ban, but it would feel better as a general policy. And sure Facebook itself might not longer exist by then

I was definitely not comparing the severity of the effect - just the idea of punishing people for very long times in general, regardless of the importance of the crime or of the punishment, strikes me as unfair because people can change and improve themselves.

I spend a half day in jail over a charge that was later dismissed. I would choose being banned on Twitter and Facebook over spending an hour in jail.
