So that means that any cop has the right to kill him at sight for the rest of this life ? Whatever he did in the past is utterly irrelevant.

Even he were stealing or buying cocaine during the incident (which he wasn't) wouldn't justify killing him.

The only justifications for the police using lethal force are it was the only possible way to save innocent lives (like during a terror attack or hostage situation) or if the cop was directly threatened with lethal force himself. No past event and no lesser crime can justify taking a life.

Fortunately for us all 2021 is no longer 1850 and these crimes are no longer punished by being declared lawless and liable to being gunned down on the high streets.

Was the prosecution allowed to reenter the murder 3 charge?

George Floyd was a convicted criminal so while I have no love or sympathy for him, what happened did happen. My primary concern in this trial is whether it will truly be a fair one with so much pressure to convict Mr. Chauvin. Whether Mr. Chauvin was innocent or not in reality, i fully expect that we'll see a guilty verdict regardless. People are crying for blood and unfortunately that means Mr. Chauvin probably won't be given a fair shake.

Look on the bright side: at least Chauvin is actually being tried for murder and not wanton endangerment.

He could have just fired a stinger missile at a busload of nuns and police should still attempt to capture him alive. Once they've done so, and he's in handcuffs (which he was by the way), they can't extrajudicially kill him afterwards either.

Bullseye.

Killing someone has to be justified by establishing them as an ongoing threat, which you cannot neutralize through non-lethal means. If they are no longer a threat, lethal force is off the table.

So you have no love or sympathy for George Floyd because he was guilty of lesser crimes over a decade ago, but you feel all sorry for Derek Chauvin who just killed someone ? What a weird way of allocating sympathy... or perhaps it's due to skin color ?

He was convicted of multiple counts of drug possession, theft, trespassing and aggravated robbery. The man wasn't a hero or even a good person. How he died doesn't change the way he lived. I don't see how recognizing the facts is a terrible way to feel.

He was convicted of those a decade ago, and had a clean record from then up until the day he died! Don't you think people can become better? Or is it 'in his nature' to commit crimes?

He committed murder, he should be found guilty of murder. Police officers usually don't get held accountable for murder like this so I'm expecting he'll be found innocent or only found guilty of the manslaughter charge and innocent on both murder charges.

I don't appreciate the insinuation of racism, nor did I say I felt sorry for Mr. Chauvin. I only said I had no sympathy or love for George Floyd on the basis of him being a convicted criminal. I would say the same of anyone convinced of aggravated robbery regardless of their background.

The NYPD went on strike after one of their officers got away with choking Eric Garner to death. Officer Daniel Pantaleo wasn't even indicted and they still felt so attacked by the city government that they engaged in a go-slow, abandoning their pro-active policing. Which incidentally reduced crime in the city. So even if Chauvin is acquitted, the MPD might try to retaliate against the city.

Derek Chauvin committed a crime I'm not going to argue that, but what he's guilty of isn't for you or I to decide. My concern isn't what he's sentenced with, only the fairness of the trial. Even the worst monsters in history deserve a fair and honest trial but given the publicity of the crime it's not hard to believe that Chauvin will be convicted of the harshest possible sentence even if evidence surfaced to acquit or lessen the sentence.

I'm concerned that people are out for blood and it will affect the trial. Do you think I'm wrong in that assumption?

I don't care if he was snorting coke that he just stole from a cop, the trial is about his murder; not his crime, regardless of how recent or not.
