Okay, let's do a quick science lesson. My parents are also nurses and I read my mother's nursing journals for funsies sometimes, but I'd say my science education has been quite good.
Many diseases are airborne. That means they are small enough to be carried by the wind as a vapor, and that vapor is thin enough to enter someone's respiratory system through their mouth and nose. This is why you cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, because that is where airborne diseases escape. The common cold, pneumonia, RSV, and a form of the bubonic plague are all airborne illnesses.
Let's take a look at the sizes of some microscopic particles:
It is incredibly tiny, which means that it is absolutely capable of being an airborne illness.
So what here does not make sense, if anything?

If you haven't been masking, you have been a good friend of the virus. You had a problem with me saying that anti maskers are the main reason this has gotten out of hand, so ima assume you are one. Why don't you make another lame ass garbage excuse of an argument for how im making baseless assumptions while your own words call your denial into response you "both sides" peddling scientifically illiterate ideologue? We'll get as close as we can. With 50-60% of the pop vaccinated as is, cases are really quite low. I bet we hit 70/75%, and COVID lingers for a few years, but without any major measures in place due to the success of antiviral drugs to combat the symptoms of it, the likely low case loads, and the fact that hospitals won't be overburdened.
Plus, I'd say by July, if you haven't gotten a shot, that's on you, unless you're in a deeply disconnected area like rural Appalachia or some shit.

Last I did check, the CDC claims 49% of US adults are fully vaccinated atm. That the 70% goal Biden set won’t be met. At best, 67%, but that’s pretty close to the 70% immunity target needed I think. However, vaccination rates have slowed down considerably.

Yeah, I guess my thinking is that everyone who has gotten their first dose will probs get their second since they now personally know that it's safe.
I mean, we're not going to hit full immunity targets, and it sounds bleak, but again, COVID's severity in the developed world has plunged because now doctors do have all these antivirals at their disposal for patients that do get really sick. Back in January/February, that just wasn't the case. One possible scenario I've heard of is that it becomes like another seasonal flu, where we get vaccinated bi-yearly or so, and I'm fine with that.
If you take your flu shot and you catch the flu, you're 99% better off than the bloke who forgot his shot.

Of course.
And because a lot of folks here want to insist that I'm some drooling MAGA chud: I'm fully vaxxed, I wear my mask in places that require it still and I used to work as a contact tracer over the winter, during the worst of the pandemic. I'm not some in-denial dummy; I just have the opinion that people started to fetishize this sort of safety theater that dominated the later part of the pandemic and lost track of what was really happening.
The thing with pandemics is this; individual actions don't mean anything, because your safe actions can be immediately canceled out by someone's non-safety, get it? It takes mass action to defeat a pandemic. Look at what Vietnam did; you can critqiue all you want about how illiberal it was to lock everyone down by law, but they lost 53 people so far.
53.
The US lost almost three quarters of a million, because we refuse to recognize the occasional need for mass action.
Oh well.

First or second vaccinations, though?
One vax (of a two-vax vaccine) is really quite effective. I expect people who weren't eager to get vaccinated at all, are quite likely to put off the second vaccination indefinitely.
For our herd immunity, it's FAR more important that 90% of people get the first shot, than getting full vaccination up to 70% or so. I know this because I fell into a big cauldron of Mathematics when I was a baby!

There will be others, possibly worse or much worse, and we will ALL respond better and quicker, and hopefully we will find a way to keep working on everything else that matters even if we're "locked down" and even with random death stalking us.
