I agree what happened is not good, if a former Mayor said this, I take your word for it, it is wrong and bad, at least it is a former Mayor. The Democratic Party should also not make politics out of it, and neither should the Republicans in any way, this should not be about politics on any sides.

He was the current mayor, said these words, then had to resign.

The fact the Republicans hate nationalisation is why this has happened. The fact Texas has private companies dealing with the electric and gas mains is the reason they have seen power outages. Because they have not been connected to the federal grid is the main reason this has happened, thanks to the Republican control of Texas.

The idea that this should not be about politics is just playing ostrich.

This had happened before, but Texas politicians decided not to heed warnings and reccomendations from Federal regulators. The GOP, still following the mantra of "there's more imprtant things than living", continues to say that going days without power is a sacrifice Texans should be willing to make if it means keeping federal regulators out of the state’s power grid.

That has long been a point of pride with Texas politicians who in the 2000s chose to deregulate the state's power market and allow power companies, not state regulators, determine when and how to build and maintain power plants.

That system has fallen under scrutiny in recent days as millions of Texans are left without power following an unusual cold snap. Following a near identical episode a decade ago, federal regulators warned Texas it needed to take steps to better insulate its power plants.

This is all about politics. It's all about how the GOP is willing to have some of their electorate die, in service of profits - and how they will lie about it.
