Shooting unarmed civilians (they got makeshift shields, and... that's damn near it) that are retreating. Maybe they threw a can or two (or some other objects), sure, but yeah, just shoot them because they are totally a threat to the goons with actual weapons and armor. A 19 y/o also got shot in the head.

I am quite lost for words. Or just couldn't say anything that could equate to what I am feeling.

Schraner Burgener said that in conversations with Myanmar’s deputy military chief, Soe Win, she had warned him that the military was likely to face strong measures from some countries and isolation in retaliation for the coup.

“The answer was: ‘We are used to sanctions, and we survived’,” she told reporters in New York. “When I also warned they will go (into) isolation, the answer was: ‘We have to learn to walk with only few friends’.”

They really don't care, and sanctions don't seem to work much, especially if China will basically back you anyway. They've applied sanctions to most of the HK government, they have to deliver Carrie Lam's pay in cash as she's blacklisted from banks.. doesn't matter.

I think it's obscene that it's 2021 and governments are still treating people like chattel, fodder for fire if they dissent. Seemingly there's little the West can do to stop it, especially given they're going through their own troubles. Alas the cack-handed manner in which they've dealt with the pandemic has vastly lowered opinion of their capabilities.

Well, so much for that idea with sanctions, I suppose. And yes, it's amazing (in a terrifying way) on how much COVID has become a non-issue - which I want to clarify that I am not spreading misinformation and that it's still deadly as ever. However, with the coup and the subsequent shootings and many deaths, Covid has relatively become tamer, especially when the military and the police starts doing the shoot-to-kill absurdity.

Just look at the history of Burma, the Burmese military doesn’t care about blockades or massacres.

I am surprised that Aung San Suu Kyi put forward the idea of using a parliamentary majority to amend the constitution to restrict the military’s power before weakening the military.

especially the current military leaders are close to retirement,This proposal to restrict the power of the military can easily be considered by military leaders as preparations for liquidation.

At present, we have not seen the support of Aung San Suu Kyi from members of the new generation of army.
I can only say that as a politician, Aung San Suu Kyi was too hasty

2022 is just an arbitrary number.

And even without a pandemic I don’t see what the West could do to stop this. They didn’t do anything when the Rohingya where being killed and expelled, they didn’t do anything for the what, 80+ years before hand that Myanmar was under a military dictatorship, why would they do anything now, pandemic or no?

Also the possibilities for intervention are very limited and after the desastrous interventions of the 2000s and 2010s years nobody wants to kick off yet another war. Not in south east asia.

A nationwide general strike is the last chance and possibly the best thing they can do to stop the Tatmadew. But like bombadil's post indicates, if they are willing to take in international isolation and sanctions etc... not even that may stop them. It really boils down on how determined they are and how little fuck they give about their image. It seems, at least in the last case, they have zero fucks and simply dont care what the rest of the world thinks of them.

On another note, Singapore advises citizens to consider leaving Myanmar as soon as they can.

SINGAPORE: Singaporeans in Myanmar have been advised to consider leaving while it is still possible to do so.

Citing the "rapidly escalating clashes between protesters and the Myanmar security forces" and the rising number of civilian casualties, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Thursday (Mar 4) also strongly advised Singaporeans to defer all travel to Myanmar.

"Singaporeans currently in Myanmar should also consider leaving as soon as they can by commercial means while it is still possible to do so."

"Singaporeans who choose to remain in Myanmar are strongly advised to remain indoors as far as possible and avoid unnecessary travel, in particular to areas where protests are occurring. Singaporeans are reminded to remain vigilant and monitor local news closely," added MFA.

MFA added that Singaporeans in Myanmar are encouraged to eRegister on its website so that they may be contacted should the need arise.

Those who require consular assistance can contact the Singapore Embassy in Yangon, or the MFA Duty Office...

Part of me thinks that this is just typical business and stuff, anyway. Nothing unusual. I am just surprised that there are a considerable amount of people there for business trips even during COVID. As far as I know, I don't think they can travel for tourism purposes (I mean before the coup, not now, of course).

In a mix of laser-guided karma, here're some of the stories said and spread across Facebook, alongside a few other social networks.

- People that actually supported, and not in the "Oh, because you guys were ignoring us during the Genocide" sort of way. They are just going "Oh of course, what did you expect to happen when the police are shooting live rounds and you still went outside to protest? Dumbassery." So yeah, some of them unironically supports it, not because NLD was ignorant of the Rohingya Genocide, mind you. Nope, they just have malice, or that they are the family of a military or whoever has the sheer amount of money.

- The karmic twist (not sure if the same person) of a high-ranking army officer's daughter getting fired from her workplace in Tokyo, along with the Japanese police simply smiling and smirking while she was desperate and helpless. And she and her family are being scrutinized and shunned by the society over there as a whole.

Let's hope that this does something.

And I didn't mean that sarcastically. $1 billion is a lot, so surely this must mean something, because it's been established that they didn't care about the people, so maybe they will care about their precious billion dollar.

EDIT: Spelling mistake, but ah well... prexcious sounds nice.

I do not think this can change much, even if the military does not make a coup, due to the NLD is so determined to limit have the power of the military, and they probably won’t be able to get the money.
This Myanmar coup,The direct fuse was the retirement of Myanmar Army Commander Min Aung Hlaing.
Min Aung Hlaing will retire at 65 next year and will become a commoner after retirement.
The commander-in-chief is not an elected official. There is no immunity according to Myanmar law, and because the commander-in-chief is extremely powerful and involves a wide range of interests, under the special system of Myanmar, it is inevitable that he will be worried about being liquidated after retirement.
When General Than Shwe retired, Parliament pardoned it, and when General Thein Sein retired, Parliament also pardoned it.
But the current parliament is unwilling to grant Min Aung Hlaing immunity
It is possible that the NLD used the opportunity of this amnesty to offer a price to Min Aung Hlaing. For example, the army now holds 25% of parliamentary seats. The NLD wants to remove this clause. If Min Aung Hlaing agrees, then it will grant an amnesty. Don't agree, sorry, no amnesty. However, Min Aung Hlaing was not an absolute leader in the army, even if he wanted to do the promise , Other army members such as incoming generals will not agree,So he chose the final plan.

I had to Google it because people were going "We support the CRPH" and I had no idea what it was.

The United States is adding Myanmar's Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs and top military conglomerates MEC and MEHL to a Commerce Department trade blacklist

The United States on Thursday unveiled new measures to punish Myanmar’s army for its Feb. 1 coup, blocking the ministries of defense and home affairs and top military conglomerates from certain types of trade.

Washington has also subjected Myanmar to “military end use” export control restrictions, requiring its U.S. suppliers to seek difficult-to-obtain U.S. licenses to ship it certain items. The United States will not allow Myanmar’s military to continue to benefit from access to many items, the Commerce Department said in a statement on Thursday. The Commerce Department added that it was reviewing further potential action.

The two conglomerates identified - Myanmar Economic Corporation and Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited - are among those used by the military to control vast swathes of Myanmar’s economy through the holding firms and their subsidiaries, with interests ranging from beer and cigarettes to telecom, tires, mining and real estate.

Advocacy group Justice for Myanmar said on Tuesday that the Ministry of Home Affairs, which commands the police, had purchased technology from American companies that was being used for surveillance of social media, among other uses.

Update on this, in the extremely saddest of way: So they started looting / confiscating donation boxes from Burmese temples / pagodas / etc. Shwedagon Pagoda's donation boxes are more or less gone, it would seem.

Regardless of people's stances on religion, I seriously think this is the lowest of the low, especially because you don't just take from a donation box. Fucked up, and pathetically humorous because you know they are desperate with all the transfer blockades.
