Actually, I'm thinking all the money inserted through Quantitative Easing was put in through banks. And government didn't really get its money's worth: too much of it went to the already rich.

Yeah, nationalize the bloody banks. If an "investor" comes in with a proposal to borrow money and use it to sell a company short, hold them down and write "scumbag" on their forehead with an indelible pen. Profiting from another's downfall is inherently bad, because it incentivizes destruction not growth.

It won't even cost much. Simply declare that all businesses are worth their assets minus their liabilities, not "market capitalization" in shares, and the banks will cost next to nothing. Nationalize the banks *waves puny fist*

Selling short needs to be illegal, because - depending on the volumes involved - the act of selling itself will provide the desired drop in prices.

1. Amateur becomes professional when you make others money from the market.

2. The red edit folks here are the heros. They saw an opportunity offered by the market and took it. If they bought at 30 and sold at 90 for merlin to cover their short position, good on them.

102% shorted? You take that risk, you better be able to afford to cover it.
