Wooo, let's hope that ACAB does well in the election :)

And for those now wondering: ACAB stands for Annalena Charlotte Alma Baerbock
The Blaatschapen should resign

Söder Drops Out: Laschet to be CDU/CSU Chancellery Candidate

This after the Federal CDU Executive Committee voted last night for Lachet 31-9 over Söder, who did have the CSU's backing: https://www.dw.com/en/germany-cdu-party-board-backs-armin-laschet-as-chancellor-candidate/a-57258957

I won't lie, this is one of the more spectacular and surprising political mass suicides I've seen in a while.

Until today I was convinced that the CDU will just keep on becoming the strongest party and appointing the chancellor by default but I am starting to think that they may prove me wrong.

Indeed. For the first time, the Greens now lead in Forsa's Sunday Poll, 28-21 over CDU/CSU

Wait, wasn’t Söder more electable according to polls?

And speaking of polls...

This is interesting. And welcome. Imagine Europe’s largest economy run by Greens. That, I think, would really drive their support on the European level.

Yeah, they've truly been engaging in some amazingly self-destructive activities as of late. They were poised to do so well half a year ago still. Ah well.

I continue to say though, I do not believe in Green leadership. The amount of voters that would have to jump on their train would be...well...it would be an incredible amount. Like AfD going from nothing to 20% kind of stuff.

It will be very interesting to see where all those voters all the parties are going to lose are going to go to.

Depends. If they royally fudge it, it'll likely hurt the Green cause on a European level. A lot.

Yes and so was Friedrich Merz. Armin Laschet is pretty much a male Merkel without the original's natural charisma and energetic leadership style.

Merkel's party continues to plummet in the polls. The Green Party now holds an eight point lead.

Söder is really a lot more like Merkel than the CDU would like to admit.

In 2001, the CDU/CSU had two possible leaders: Edmund Stoiber and Angela Merkel (and Wolfgang Schäuble, but he was doomed from the start).

Stoiber was the shoe-in for chancellor.
Stoiber was more electable (man).
Stoiber had more seniority and experience.
Stoiber was the first serious CSU chancellor candidate since Strauss
Stoiber was supported by the leadeship, and also by Schäuble
Stoiber...

Stoiber lost the election.

At which point, Angela Merkel took over and started winning.

Söder is just waiting for Laschet to self-immolate, implode, or in another doom the CDU/CSU is the upcoming election. At which point, Söder will do an eloquent round of 'told you so', become leader, and start winning.

This lso means that whoever wins the upcoming elections (Greens, by the look of it) will have a chancellor with a political life expectancy of less than four years. Just ask Gerhard Schröder.

Holy sh*t the CDU just committed one of the largest political suicides ive ever seen. What in the hell were they thinking? Eh, more power to the Greens.

No idea plus Merkel’s only plan as of late is lockdown with no plans to end it and the populous is growing increasingly frustrated and to make matters worse she’s been criticizing anyone who disagrees with her. She’s had the country under lockdown since October.

What do you mean with liberal in that sentence?

Because for German politics the term has a different meaning than what is regular for Americans.

Mostly, I guess they aren't that bad. But they don't stand a chance, it will probally be the Greens anyway so what does it matter.
