Nope. If anything he's trying to push it back to the point where it's all vanished from public consciousness and no-one will rage if they vote to acquit.

Um no. The idea is that without Trump in office it will be far easier to convict him and fear no retribution from Trump

no, maglevs are indeed trains. They run on rails, they just aren't physically connected to them. They would however be very beneficiary to the US public transport system.

Not sure if he is pushing it back for that reason.

McConnell's not an idiot. He knows full well that the Trump base are not his fans, and that the Trump base can (if they're spiteful enough) attack McConnell and other moderate parts of the Republicans.

McConnell has a chance to cut the head off the snake by convicting Trump, and might be pushing it back to a) give it time to die out a little so Republicans feel safer to convict and b) so it might be overshadowed by the inauguration.

I’m a train purist. A train has wheels and runs on rails. A Maglev runs on magnets not rails or wheels. Therefore not train.

High speed electric trains will do the same thing and are far more affordable.

Besides you don’t need to connect cities like Miami and Chicago or LA and NYC by rail. You can use airplanes for those and use high speed rail to connect everything else

Alternatively, the hope is that Trump will fade from the limelight to the point where GOP Senators can feel safe in burying him without major backlash from their own base.

I don't think that this is the kind of Senate business that will fade from the limelight.

Wouldn't they use heaps of electricity?

Fast rail is one of those things I used to love. China crashing two into each other (2011) made me a lot more suspicious of the concept. Then France, 2015, killed 11 people due to excessive speed on a test run.

Japan --- France --- China

Where on that ^^^ spectrum for "doing stuff without fucking up" would we place the USA?

So high speed rail is bad because a driver ignored posted line speeds and crashed?

I'm probably not right, but I'm hoping that the Trump base will based on all the consequences of them storming the Capitol realize their approach to politics was absurd all along.

I know I'm too hopeful. I just want to believe.

^i heard americans got a delay in regards to trains. even italy, which was as backward few decades ago, prepared well and became, quite ashtoningly, cuttind edge.

obviously, italy will fall backward again soon, as it ever does, when she will sell out all, again, for paying debts from her precious, beloved, backward, bloody costly social structure.

secret was do not pretend to grab latest tech out of desert, patiently build yours without tricks instead.

it’s absurd to decently rail country if without petrol taxes and upkeeping commercial flights subsidies.

To be honest I feel as though this impeachment effort may blow back against the Democrats. The impeachment trial is going to swallow up time in the Senate, which does not give Biden time to pass his agenda, confirm his picks, and get COVID relief out to bolster the economy. You are effectively dragging the Trump show into the Biden presidency, which I think few people actually want.

Let’s say a new Maglev train system is built. How many people do you think are actually going to stop driving their cars to work and use it instead?

Several Democrats have advocated for waiting 100 days to present the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.

Also I have a sneaking suspicion that you're in the camp who would have said "impeachment will backfire" regardless.
