I think it should be obvious the cost of lockdowns outweigh the benefits especially if your going to do nothing to people pay their bills or keep their business afloat.

Possibly, although the lockdowns would only really end if the ones with the influence to end them are seeing more costs than benefits, that balance also including an unsuppressable level of public outcry.

I think it's a big assumption to think the 2021 will be the post-covid era.

I assume that 2021 will still involve covid. But there will be an end in sight, and that alone will make everything much more bearable. As for the actual post-covid era, I know that I've changed a lot. If everyone else was affected the same way, we'll probably see a lot more people worry about their family and maybe a stronger emphasis on washing hands and things like that.

It will probably get less during summer but it wont be away. Things will get a bit less pressured which is good. But it wont be over till 2022.

That’s what I’m wondering. I’ve pretty much resigned myself to the fact that there’s a number of things I will never get to do now. I’ll never get to travel across country (and it actually be worth it). I’ll never get to see Europe except in pictures and maybe VR. I’ll never get to go to an amusement park again. If movies start going directly to streaming rather than theaters then I may never get to see a new movie again.

Really there’s no point in me ever leaving the house again except for work and that’s only because I won’t be able to work from home.

None of that is going to happen. It’s not in the economic interest of any country especially Europe to ban tourism henceforth. Amusement parks aren t going to go the way of the dodo.

I think by and large things will be back to normal by mid-year either due to the end of the pandemic itself or people's flat out refusal to abide by measures any longer due to sheer fatigue...restrictions and mandates don't mean a whole lot if nobody obeys them, and if the cost exceeds the benefit they out of necessity have to be abandoned. Depending on the individual situation it might take more or less time; I would expect less populated areas to see a faster return to normal than more heavily populated areas and urban centers.

Some lasting changes will remain, such as an increased flexibility with working from home and the current options for take-out and curbside pickup for dining; I also think this will spell the end of indoor dining at fast-food restaurants once and for all in favor of a fully takeout setup, in turn reducing their real estate. Two invaluable benefits of this pandemic will be: 1.) it gives us a fully-updated understanding of the spread of a severe outbreak of a novel disease in the context of the current level of globalization and international travel and 2.) proof of the ability to rapidly develop and implement vaccines at an unprecedented rate. There's also of course the immense increase in understanding and treatment that will accompany this as well.

One thing I do hope stays around is the use of face masks when people are symptomatic with an infection and need to go out. That's a good habit that will hopefully reduce the impact of infectious diseases going forward...I also hope we see some changes such as federal paid sick leave to further enhance the effectivness of these measures. After all, the current disease burden of influenza isn't great even if it's nowhere near as significant as COVID has been.

Personally, I’m adopting their use (face masks) permanently for travel and during flu season.

The business trip oriented transatlantic air routes are certainly going to be less busy in the future. Rural areas are also getting an infusion of life as people choose to move out of the cities.

If anything I think the air travel; industry should skyrocket. Expect a lot of things to get super cheap.

As for being in the Covid Era I would say we are in a odd transition period. So on one hand Covid still exists and is still sort of a danger, but on the other hand companies and people just want to go out and be free. So I would say the Covid era has not ended although its in a weird kind of "Teenage stage" in between Covid Era and Post Covid era.

I think polices seen once as "Socialist and radical" will be more common. It seems that after most recessions a democrat came into power. Great depression FDR got us out, 2008 Obama got us out, and hopefully 2021 Biden will get us out.

It is widely agreed that FDR extended the Great Depression by a few years. Obama? Yeah, slowest growing economy since the Great Depression isn't much of an achievement either. Let's hope Biden can do better, even though we're not really in much of a recession. Have you seen the stock market? Anyway, 2021 can hopefully not crash and burn as 2020 has. I hope we can keep avoiding wars, keep following smart *keyword "smart"* policies and pump out those vaccines, baby!

I rarely use the stock market as a sign of economic success and propriety. Why? Well for one the stock market is measuring how much people are buying and selling stocks of companies. I feel that this is totally different from the success of the people. The stocks can be at a all time high, yet millions are unemployed. Sometimes stocks and how the people are doing do match up, but its not the best method. I like to look at unemployed, people on food stamps, etc instead.

Sometimes, it's the littlest things in life that can make you a little happy, and you can pass that happiness around to others. ^^

That reminds me, I always wondered, what if I was born before all this chaos, you know before 2001. So I was talking to someone born in the late 80's, and was a kid in the 90's and the 90's had their own set of problems. I think the reason why things seem so much worse is first because we never encountered it or two because of the spread of the internet and mass media. Something that would take a little bit to reach you can now be delivered in a instant (like now). So I think we can get though because we are all in this together!
