Barbados to Remove the Queen as Head of State

Wait, what? Weren't they already a country, you ask? Yes, but they were a Commonwelath Realm with the Queen as head of state. Yes, Barbados shall now be a republic with a powerless president and everything. Some are saying this could lead to a renewed push to see more realms make the final break, but I don't think it'll go quite that far in the near future. Once Charles becomes King, we'll probably see it, however. It is, admittedly, a symbolic gesture, but one that the current Barbadian government sees as necessary.

Well, I do hope that the new government of Barbados does find stability. That said, I am not sure that it is something that would lead to other dominions to drop Elizabeth II as the head of state, and right now for me it seems more like an one-off thing. It depends on what the other smaller dominions do in the following years, really.

The sad thing about the Australian case is that it would likely be done on a general left-wing anti-colonialist ticket rather than any specific issue with the monarchy, which is ironic since IIRC Australia is the only dominion which saw the monarchy use its power in modern history.

Yes, not a lot of other changes might occur in HM's reign for now, but once the Prince of Wales becomes the monarch, it might kick off a trend in dropping the monarchy, either because the Queen was a deeply respected figure worldwide, or because Charlie is a deeply unpopular figure, thanks to everything from Diana, or just being overshadowed by his mother's fame.
