Is there a contingency for an elected official refusing to leave office after their term expires? Do they said a squad of jedi masters to arrest them?

I would love that. "In the name of the Senate of The Republic you are under arrest Chancellor."

Trump "are you threatening me Master Jedi?"

Master Windu:"The New York Attorney General will decide your fate."

Trump: "I am the law."

Master Windu: Not anymore

Trump "Its treason then." pulls out lightsaber but is inept with it Mace Windu strikes him down.

"Like I said you are under arrest Chancellor."

I can't decide if he will go berserk, pardoning every Federal felon and trying to invade Canada.
Or will he just say "fuck it" and play a lot of golf for the last two months?

I think the latter actually. Pretend the Presidency never meant that much to him anyway.

I suspect that southern rich folk at the time just had an instinctual predisposition towards resolving disobedience with violence.

That's a no then and that's why 2020 is different from civil war era.
Again, to be clear i don't think we're actually going to have a civil war but there's enough for some trump backed violence. It wouldn't get what he wants but it's possible he'll do it.

Or blame the pandemic for low voter turnout or something like that. Which he will then blame the democrats for hyping up the pandemic to scare people away from the polls.

Point is, if he wins, he did it and he did a great job. Wonderful job. Nobody can win elections like Donald, secure votes like Donald.

If he loses, it's everyone else's fault but his own.

George W. Bush dropped off the face of the Earth after his semi-catastrophe of a presidency.

And yet, I kinda feel bad for the old boy, felt like he never wanted to be president and did it just to please his dad.

I feel zero sympathy for Donald Trump.

Donald Trump wanted the power with none of the responsibility and is cronies in the electoral college gave it to him, and once it got hard, he put on crocodile tears.

Donald Trump is a Twitch titty streamer who complains about people objectifying him and how hard it is to be perfect and beautiful.

There is no reason to delay the election, and no reason to prevent a mail-in vote alongside the in-person vote. There was voter fraud caught with in-person voting.

Mail-in voting has been done since the Civil War, and is commonly done with little to no fraud for Americans who are out of the country for the election, as well as in some states. The claim is unsubstantiated.

Isn't the only big case of fraud stemming from election fraud especially in NC-9's ballot harvesting by the GOP in 2018?

"[H]is cronies in the electoral college gave it to him" ... The Electoral College is not a permanent body in which a person could have cronies. You get electoral votes by winning the popular vote in the states. Trump won Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania by razor-thin margins and so won their electoral votes. There were seven faithless electors, five pledged to Clinton and two to Trump, who voted for other candidates.

Very likely and thanks for that great imagery. I read that in Samuel L. Jackson's voice.

what i hope is that the pentagon remembers its oath is to the constitution.
that if it comes to that, they insure a fair free and impartial election is held, and before the end of this year,
that they abide by its results, even, especially even, if don panoccio has to be frog marched out of the oval office.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

We, [being a member of the Armed Services speaking on my own on behalf of a number of like-minded troops], have not forgotten our oath and we will faithfully execute the orders of the President of the United States. That being said, it is not our job to act as the United States' emergency fire-ax. We cannot and we should not be involved in any aspect of the electoral process other than ensuring its cyber-security.

We are not a country where the Military guards the polls and stages elections. That is a bad precedent in a Constitutional Republic.

this is the most optimistic outcome, one we can all hope for, an orderly and peaceful transition as there has been each time for as long as i've been alive.
i'm just not taking entirely for granted, with everything the constitution protects us from, which it hasn't always for the past almost four years.

The military does swear an oath of allegiance to the President. They have a moral and legal obligation to refuse unconstitutional and includes being asked to stage a coup. Launching one on their own would violate that oath as well
