Why not simply become a wealthy real estate investor and run yourself?

Or be born into a wealthy family in the Hamptons and then use your trust funds to fund your campaign.

I love the argument that McGrath was the best chance to beat McConnell. Legitimately I've seen McGrath despised by centrist, progressive, and Republican voters in general. And you all think she's the best option? People really are out of touch.

Booker Is a better candidate in my view. He’s from Louisville and has a record in the state legislature unlike McGrath. He can point to things he’s done

Not to mention that he polls better in head-to-heads against McConnell.

I feel like this has been a pattern over the last few elections where early polls in Texas show a shift but when the rubber hits the road they still go hard for the Republican. I get that they are in fact getting closer and these polls illuminate that shift, I'm over getting excited about a close Texas poll months away from the election (or any poll months away from the election...leading lap 100 of the Indy 500 is great, but lap 200 is the one that matters). When it finally shifts and a Democratic candidate wins a state wide race I'll get excited.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Please let this be so. If he’s leading in Florida by that much though North Carolina will go blue by a much wider margin

Well, the most recent Civiqs poll has McConnell leading McGrath 53-33 while he leads Booker 52-38.

Still within the MOE, though. Plus, as I've stated multiple times, polls are worthless until after the conventions and first head-to-head debate.

Swap Florida and Texas and you'll be closer. We may have liberal strongholds here in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, the Valley, and in parts of Dallas, but the rural turnout still overpowers them.

Ok based on recent polling, if the election were held today, this is probably the map:

largest EC victory since '88

largest EC victory for an incumbent party loss since '80

People have been predicting the end of the Republican party since Obama’s initial election. They’re not going to die out, they’ll have to overhaul their strategy in order to keep up with changing demographics. So instead of letting minorities phase them out, they’ll try to appeal to minorities, which they have already done to an extent with Hispanics in the Southwest

To be totally fair the GOP did die in 2013.

That's the problem, having policies at odds with minority communities is so ingrained in the GOP culture that several senior party members have failed to change course. Donald Trump, the most recent standard bearer, is actively encouraging this (or at least the mindset of it) and so it's difficult to imagine them changing in the near future.

It's likely that, within the next twenty-thirty years or so, the GOP will be confronted with an electoral wipeout that will mandate a change or splinter in a failed effort to remain relevant, having a disaster facilitate that change is equivalent to the doomsaying that folks have been having about the GOP, essentially. Either that or the GOP gets so wildly successful with their voter suppression that they manage to become the top dog in a de facto one-party state.

I never bought into the whole "GOP will die due to changing demographics" thing. The Republicans will try to win those demographics instead, it’s common sense. Why would you continue pursuing a failing policy position when you can pursue a more successful one?
