And those are official numbers. Unofficial numbers have it at 11% to 16%

According to whom? I've read that if you're a healthy person under the age of 40ish, the likelihood of death is slim to none.

True. Those numbers will be found in high population centers like ROK, Japan, parts of Europe.

And the DPRK as well. A note for anyone who looks at the maps and wonders why North Korea's blank, it's not that they don't have Coronavirus, multiple intelligence agencies have said that they do. It's that North Korea's North Korea and consequently won't say a word to the rest of the world about how many are sick or dead.

Tbh I can bet that NK is just black bagging anyone suspected of having it and cremating them posthaste.

Honestly, yes. All countries that have confirmed cases of the coronavirus should temporarily shut down there borders.

Put all infected in quarantine zones in hospitals. Spend millions on a cure right now.

And throw the global economy into a woodchipper over a virus that so far does not appear to be a significant danger to otherwise healthy people? Fuck that noise.

Is the Corona virus truly that horrid ? Sofar it seems less deadly than a normal flu.

It has killed fewer people but has a much higher mortality rate.
With regular flu it is .1% or less. Coronavirus more like 2%.

Twenty times worse.

who are these unofficial sources and what is their methodology? From what i can tell, its mainly the elderly, the very young, and those who are immunosuppressed who die from corona virus.

They will mostly be found in areas with poor medical care/care normal people cannot afford.

At this time it's pretty much only in the epidemic stage at PRC'ian hospitals so... y'know those places where everybody and their grandmother goes to to have IV drips the moment they get a cold.

I just don't see the benefits of closed borders over this - I understand the rationale in banning flights from China or Iran at this juncture, but severely limiting global travel and the like will be counterproductive in terms of fighting this disease.

I still dont see the need to close borders over this. Quarantines, public awareness, and major funding for a cure should be undertaken for the time being. Besides there are already isolated cases in many western countries, and the damage from such a shutdown would unlikely be worth it to say the least.

Depends on the border. Ocean borders are pretty easy to protect.

The only real cost of closing borders to people is loss of tourism money.
Most international travel is not really that important.

Their hearts are in the right place, but they bungle everything and don't have anything like the levels of funding or respect they need to do their job.

Yes yes we know you think that we shouldn't be allowed to quarantine people who have it, but if we followed your advice then this would be a lot worse than it currently is.

The Chinese Doctor who died over this was below 40 and fairly healthly. It depends on the individual in question.
