China ?

Well, we have to buy our fireworks somewhere. :p

Oh, and China isn't top dog yet. They just own the top dog. ;)

Hmm, not sure if they haven't already overtaken the USA.
In any case, I would prefer topdog USA over topdog China.

Fireworks... one of the American favourites. Is there a contest to see which city can put up the best 4th July fireworks?

Nothing. Probably stay home and read. My family doesn't celebrate the 4th of July. But since this year we're on American soil, we'll probably hear the ruckus of the fireworks and such.

I'd rather stay home, but it's important to the kids.

I think you can chip your kids now, the same way you can chip your pets. Hell I saw an advertisement of some kid running away from his mom, so she pulled out a tracking device and found him.

1) the chips we put in pets these days are not GPS locator devices. They're microchips that are encoded with the name, address, and phone number of the owner. Those chips can be read with a hand held scanner. And while theoretically you could have such a chip installed in your children (physically possible at least) it only works if you have someone with the scanner device within a few feet of the kid. It doesn't in any way help you figure out where it is.

2) the commercial you saw was for Duracell batteries, saying that they're so long lasting that they're trusted in applications and devices that absolutely HAVE to work. Like the GPS device, installed in the kid's shoes. Not in the kid himself

Guns and booze. Just like every other Fourth of July.
Tremble with the dawn, for it heralds the Long Night to come...
Tremble, for He brings the darkness as dusk never could...

Fire and Blood.

My fiance's been in physical therapy, and there are other worries about other family members that have been on my mind.

That said, I'll be with him -- and if we can manage it (since he is not terribly mobile at the moment) we'll try to get to our friends' cookout. If not... well, fireworks on TV, I suppose.

Well, as a british person, I shall mourn the fourth of july, by sullenly sitting in a dark room on my high backed leather chair, drinking a glass of fine brandy, flinging the glass, enraged, into the fire, and yelling;

CURSE YOU AMERICA, CURSE YOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
...gorgonopsids.

Ah well. My Dad's been doing that for years - the volunteer crews are basically rewarded by after hours free run of the place - he's been in all sorts of cool parts of the caverns that are off limits to John Q Public.

I'll be in Philly, on top of a 19 story building, getting high and watching several different firework shows.

It's nice having access to a roof that gives you the ability to see miles away.

My yard faces Tijuana, so I'm probably not going to see any fireworks.
