According to exit polls, Jeremy Corbyn needs to start writing his obituary now. Good riddance. I'll save the actual celebration for when the results are actually counted, but this is terrific news for Britain, Israel, Jews and the whole world.

There is an actual wolf, so you do not need to make up additional imaginary ones to make the real one seem more scary. Or say it is the size of an elephant when it is the size of well a wolf.

As the man said, if the Tories really wanted to sell off the NHS they would've done it ages ago.

You know how social security is the 3rd rail of American politics? The same is true of the NHS in the UK.

Not really? He was talking about empty homes. Pretty much homes that are only owned by rich assholes who don't need them and are just trying to speculate with the housing market.

You're talking about giving the State the power to arbitrarily go around taking your shit without compensation because they feel like it. How is that not the stuff of dictatorships? This is how tinpot dictators behave.
Purgatio is an absolutist hereditary monarchy run as a one-party fascist dictatorship, which seized power in a sudden and abrupt coup d'état of 1987-1988, on an authoritarian eugenic and socially Darwinistic political philosophy and ideology, now ruled and dominated with a brutal iron fist under the watchful reign of Le Grand Roi Chalon-Arlay de la Fayette and La Grande Reine Geneviève de la Fayette (née Aumont) (i.e., the 'Founding Couple' or Le Couple Fondateur).

This depends on the education. To my mind, an educated populace is one which understands logic as it must understand Maths and English, and is inoculated against gaslighting, projection, and any other fallacy used in deception.

Well, it would be great if that's what education entailed, but it often doesn't :/

Liriena wrote:
Thanatttynia wrote:I wish this was true

I think it's true with massive caveats. Because not all education is guaranteed to make you a better critical thinker, specially when it comes to politics. Specially not if the education is provided by institutions with a vested interest in not encouraging you to be too critical of the status quo.

Plus, all the education in the world won't necessarily make you immune to savvy marketing strategies with just the right message. I've seen a lot of otherwise smart and educated people get incredibly gullible and borderline stupid about politics.

Yes, possibly. But your latter statement seems to hold true almost all of the time... people just want to believe what makes them feel better, regardless of how clever they are in particular fields (and of course intelligence in a specific sector doesn't always equate to overall intelligence)

There's a degree of people being easier to fool if they're convinced they can't be fooled. If you think advertising doesn't work on you, it definitely does. If you think you'll spot the trick, the magician has already made you choose the nine of diamonds.

It wouldn't be in their interests either. The EU's bargaining power over the UK comes from the fact that the negotiations are time-limited. Unlimited extensions would take away that bargaining power.

You're talking about giving the State the power to arbitrarily go around taking your shit without compensation because they feel like it.

I mean, ideally there would be no state at all and it would just be communities collectively and democratically redistributing housing... but I don't see the state falling any time soon so we gotta make do with what we've got.
