Apparently trains are overall somehow more deadly than planes.

I think people are forgetting that pedestrians are idiots and they're probably included in train accident reports.

The dude lost his livelihood. He was on the documentary to talk about his experience. Later, for unrelated reasons, he died, and McDonnell attended his funeral as he knew him personally. Then McDonnell saw the documentary.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

When a rail system is privatized the capitalist send goons to kill the former employees.

Actually, the rail privitisation of the 90s did lead to a sharp increase in derailments and deadly collisions. So much so, in fact, that the government renationalised the railways while allowing the trains themselves to remain private.

The data doesn't support that.

Most analysis show 150 more people would have died if the government retained ownership. Government rail is sort of like government housing, inevitably the government encases it in something flammable to save money.

Sounds a lot like he was using the guys death for sympathy.

I believe the term you wanted was paraphrased. "Abridged" implies he said those words somewhere in the text and you've just condensed it.

When all you do is accrue massive amounts of money and do fuck all besides just sit on it, that sounds a wee bit like hording.

Oh jeez...
I know what abridged means...
It's by way of being a 'joke.' The word abridged is, in this context, being used for the purposes of comic understatement. (Hence the underlining, the bold, the italics... All the words that precede it...)
It's similar to saying 'I've slightly reformatted it.'

(I actually thought before I posted: Have I laid it on too thick and ruined the joke? Nope. People will still take a word you've written literally, and assume you are using it incorrectly by accident, rather than on purpose. Even when you make it this clear!)

I'm quietly relieved at the rugby result.

I had concerns about the impact of a victory parade in London in the middle of an election campaign; both on the broader result and on the result in Scotland.

It does raise an interesting technical point, though... Would it have been possible to hold a victory parade during the campaign, or would it have been necessary to postpone it to the second half of December?

I suppose one solution might have been to avoid having any politicians present, and simply have the parade led by the patron of the English Rugby Union (Prince Harry).

All a moot point now, of course.

While Jeremy Corbyn announces a plan to possibly reschedule the next Six Nations season, but only if he gets the opportunity to renegotiate the terms of the television deal, and then put it to a vote of party members as to whether not to accept the renegotiated deal, which will then impact whether or not he advises the participating unions whether they should accept his renegotiated deal.
