How Do You Keep NS Exciting?

It must have been great on NS at the beginning when most NS nations where real world named nations.

One of the things I cant understand is why their are so many real world named nations on NS who log in, log out and don't post on the NS General threads and RP threads, I hate that.

I wish we could go back to the good old days on NS when we could create Public Polls on NS General forum and RP threads, it would reduce vote fraud, many times is needed, it would be interesting to see how nations vote on all options, many nations read, vote but don't post, perhaps if we pray to the Mod Gods and our Almighty Goddess Violet.

This is one of the reasons why I prefer RPing with entirely self-made-up nations in a fictitious world. Other ones might be, that it makes me more flexible in RP, and that I can RP as nations that would be unlikely to exist in RL, for example due to their political systems and religious makeups.
Of course, there isn't much I can tell from the "good old days on NS", for I obviously haven't been around in these - this is my oldest (active) account (and the only one I use to post in OOC subforums such as NSG, for that matter), so my nation is probably too young to know those days.
But each to their own, eh? ^^

Fun aside, I hang out in NSG every now and then - rarely, for sure, but enough to tell, that it's better than its reputation for most. I'll still probably stay a Roleplayer for the rest of my NS life, though.

My own initial impression: "Hmm, looks like no other subforum keeps the Mods as busy as this one!"
Warnings I've seen: "It's full of mad people!!! Especially in summer!!! Don't try to start a discussion there, you'll rue the day!!1111!!oneeleven!!1!"
My impression now: "Seen worse parts."

I spent a month off it because of the things I heard about it.

Honestly can´t blame you for that. NSG is truly a giant clusterfuck.

As for keeping NS exciting well my main method is talking shit about religion and then getting into a 50 post fight about it.

The sub forum that keeps the Mods busiest is the Mod Forum, I hate that, and they should be paid for their jobs.

Of course, aside from the Mod forum itself. And I agree, they should be.

I partake in my region. The nations there have crafted a highly intertwined history with a very mixed bag of characters. Right now, there is a war going on wherein a horrific parasite is spreading itself across the region and we are desperately trying to stop it, while a Lovecraftian god has awoken after a play went terribly wrong (or right, from the perspective of the cultist who altered the lines).
I don't use the forums super often, but they can be fun sometimes too.

To make it exciting for me, I created many major real world named nations, empire nations, regional and continent named nations, I took over the real world lol, as well as many made up nation names, but today most of my real world named nations are dead nations or sleeping till I wake them up again, lol.

Including The Continent of Atlantis, The Continent of Antarctica, The Island Continent of Australia and NS Wellington New Zealand, currently alive.
