Nope. People making laws about a thing does not actually indicate the prevalence of that thing.

Your article says its been trending downward since 2015, before anyone did anything about it, and that poisoning numbers have only been kept since 2012. Not a strong case for it being worthy of any action at all. Poisonings happen.

I do that occasionally when the train is not full. One time I did it when I had two very large bags that would have ended up blocking the isle. Better to use a seat rather then prevent people from moving through the car.

Second these chairs are not meant for actual use, they are an art house project. Third, I never had an issue sitting next to either my brother or my father, none of us are thin, all of us spread a little (yes women also sit with their legs slightly spread) and none of us ended up taking up more room then the width of our chair. My male friends also manage to spread without taking up more room then the width of their seat. I wonder if obesity, in the US at least, is causing some of this issue.

My main problem is that I see it as a non-issue, or, at least, an issue not worthy of legislation or societal action, so any action taken against it I see as a waste of time, effort and money.

I don't see it as a non-issue in that I have had men push into my space and then attempt to make an "argument" about it when I push back. Being petite seems to make people think I am a pushover. I am not sure exactly what has been legislated so I can't say what is or is not appropriate.

There is another thing about public transport that I've noticed.

Now, I'm hardly tall. (5'2"). But on some buses, not subway trains, this is buses I'm talking about, I can't always sit comfortably while facing straight ahead, because my knees are touching the back of the seat in front. 75cm leg from hip to floor, doesn't seem all that long to me, but there it is.

Seats, taking up an isle is a safety concern if there is a problem.
