Well I live in an area with a high rate of robberies and burglaries. I will be getting my PAL soon. I want a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .223 to stop at least a group of four people breaking into my house with weapons.

My preferred solution to your area would be fixing the problems that cause the high rate of robberies and burglaries, rather than your band-aid solution.

Well the problem is the abysmal state of social security and welfare in Canada. Justin Trudeau committed over a billion dollars to welfare and community housing initiatives. As someone relied on community housing as recently as 2016 we saw no difference. I have friends in community housing too who are dealing with so much bullshit at no fault of their own. If job creation was the primary focus behind the welfare system here I guarantee that crime would plummet.

Even though most of the time we look at Canadian politics in the present it tends to vary from interesting and insane jumps from election to election (At least for me in terms of how crazy the politics up there has shifted for decades) to very very boring, dull and almost nothing of interest.

Pray God Scheer doesn't win, lest we regress further and slash healthcare and environmental programs, loosen gun laws and allow more ridiculous pipelines to be built. ;p I'm no fan of the Liberals anymore, but I'll take their insanity over Conservative lunacy any day of the week.

Really? You'd take a corrupt, weak, lying stooge? Also why not loosen gun laws? What's wrong with letting people defend themselves? Why shouldn't we build pipelines? Our economy is stagnating my friend. We need to export our natural resources.

As noted, I am no fan of his, but he gives a damn about immigrants and refugees, affordable housing, taking SOME (albeit inadequate action) on climate change; Scheer gives a damn about none of those things.

Guns are for one purpose: killing people. They are unethical tools, period.

Pipelines up our carbon emissions. Our planet is dying. Either we take radical action, or, we're done. But, many Canadians are too short-sighted and only care about their wallets and themselves, not about the welfare of the planet or other people.

a. As a Pakistani-background Canadian immigration is destroying Canada. Straight up. Immigration is a farce, it only has contributed to our crime problem, and we are allowing people into this country from regions in the world where gays are thrown off buildings, where honor killings occur on a daily basis, where rape victims are shamed for reporting the atrocity that happened to them, and where crimes such as blasphemy, apostasy, and witchcraft are still recognized and are punished severely.

b. My older brother is in the military. His family and him own various firearms. They use them to kill. They use them to kill coyotes preying on their livestock on the farm they reside on. My brother owns firearms so when someone breaks into his house where his three children and wife are sleeping he can protect them. Firearms are used to maim and kill. So what? I'm applying for my PAL and hoping to get my RPAL. I live in a shitty area infested with crime, and my home has already been broken into. I would like to protect myself and my parents and my sister, and when she moves in, my girlfriend.

3. How are we supposed to implement solar panels, nuclear energy, wind farms, and hydroelectric dams on a mass scale without the funds? You want us to suffer more inflation? Caring about the environment is good and all until you have to live paycheck to paycheck. Besides, 90+% of the world's carbon emissions are from two countries- India and China.

1. Immigration is killing Canada? Garbage. It has made this country what it is, and xenophobia is back in fashion like it was the 1930s again. The vast majority come here and commit no crimes and live peaceably. Scaremongering nonsense at its finest.

2. " Firearms are used to maim and kill. So what?" And therein lays the problem with the human heart: hate and not giving a crap about bloodshed. There are other ways to self-defend without a gun. I can justify guns in the hands of police and soldiers, and farmers if needs be (and hunters). Otherwise, to hell with them.

3. Then we've already lost the battle for this planet. People value money (which is a manmade invention) over the very planet that sustains them. It's views like these which will destroy the environment, and it won't be on my shoulders. I'll vote for what matters: the environment and transforming our economy into one that fights carbon, not generates it. And passing the buck on China and India is a futile argument. We all have to do our share even if others don't.

What if I told you that Scheer won't do any of that (to my utter dismay).

Oh, so we should slash healthcare and toss more environmental protections aside for the sake of money like our friend Doug Ford in Ontario? God help us.

NB "environmental protections" is why Canada has only one major freeway going north from Toronto, and also why new infrastructure won't ever be built, despite market demand. And of course, causing cars to idle isn't particularly a good way to save the environment, isn't it.

Canadian healthcare system is inefficient and could use some privatizations. Particularly, modelling the (good) parts of the British NHS could go a long way.

Conservative? Nah, not really. He could fit in well with US Democrats like Biden actually.

I want Maxime Bernier in reality but I know he won't win. So I'm backing Scheer.
