I was using the phrase that sounded best to me at the time, trusting people would know I don't mean it literally and am using a saying that may have gendered language but is used gender-neutrally by many people, and has been for quite a while.

I think it's petty because it tries to insert gender-neutral language into every term, which while I get the intention, believe it does more harm than good via mass irritation to details most people don't care about. I live in a Progressive city, and most people here wouldn't get upset at saying Man Up in that manner, though may view it as aggressive.

"Man up" is never gender-neutral and is not used in that way, at least not in my dialect of English, which should not be significantly different from yours (given that you're a Portlander and my dialect is essentially equivalent to Spokane's, not too terribly far away). You don't need to revise it to say "woman up", you just need to remove it in general. Gender should not be associated with being brave or tough and the implications of "man up" are exactly that.

I'm not reinforcing gender roles for saying a term as originally designed, I'm just using the term I like without trying to disrespect anybody.

I believe that to focus on that would be sacrificing time for what is truly progressive, the economic policies that make Progressism what it is.

Progressivism is not defined by economics; in fact, that's the main thing that progressives disagree on.

I see this as trivial and harmful to the overall progressive agenda. Identity Politics and excessive Political Correctness have alienated many Americans, and I'm not going to endorse what is destroying our movement.

Just like associating maleness with positive traits like hardiness.
