Oh, aye, she is indeed. I just think it's a shame about her foreign policy stance. For me, spreading democracy(without necessarily policing the world) should be one of our pillars, not supporting dictatorships because of the spectre of Islamic terrorism.

I think the issue is rather democracy can be effectively spread.

I know it's more difficult in countries that have only ever known autocracy, but difficult doesn't mean impossible. Look at Tunisia, for example.

I don't see "spreading" as solely through force like we did in Iraq. Spreading democracy can come through cultural changes, through people seeing a better way by their own volition, as they did in Tunisia and in Egypt(which they then proceeded to fuck up by splitting the vote). We may not have brought it to Tunisia directly, but even indirect ways of people looking at how we're run and wanting that for their own countries. Spreading by example, effectively.

To me, that's not all that big when you consider how conservative SCOTUS now is. Anything she'd try to do would get shot down. What irritates me about this race is that we don't have a lot of governors with a serious chance, I much prefer them to senators in that regard.

Governors have been flaming out a lot, in both parties, this century. Bush was the last one that actually made it, and Romney was an exception. Both parties have been gravitating towards electrifying speakers who, for the most part, hail from the legislative side of the aisle. I don't expect that to change anytime soon -- there seems to be a real appetite for the president to be chief advocate as opposed to chief executive.

Mind you, in the context of 2020, it doesn't help the governors chances a lot that our likely choices are composed of Inslee, Bullock and Hickenlooper.

Sure, half of the last six presidents have been governors, but two presidents in a row weren't so...flame out! I guess...

That I can understand, but when they want to do it themselves, I've got nothing wrong with that...knowing the War is all but over and Assad is triumphant.

I think it's important to step back and consider implications, I think people get too fired up about intervening in foreign countries because "Ba'athist man bad!"

I was talking about primary dynamics, actually, there have 6 open ones this century. In 2004 Dean flamed out and Kerry and Edwards were the only two strong candidates standing. In 2008 none of the Democratic governors caught on and Romney indeed flamed out. In 2012 Romney did win, I'll admit. In 2016 Ted Cruz was the most viable alternative to Trump and Sanders to Clinton. In this election is there a Democratic governor you expect to be catching fire?

Governors have been punching under their weight in nominating contests for three cycles in a row, all things considered and it looks like it's holding steady for this election. That's a trend.

Seconded. Maybe even worse than Bernie, and Bernie has almost no chance (do the math, he draws no support from any demographics except youths, millenials, and white people, the latter of which Trump wins handily).

In my opinion, Bernie and Trump would be two of the weakest nominees for any party.
