Also, the more and more I read about the Sandy Hook conspiracy theories that Jones has been peddling, the more and more he infuriates me. These parents have lost little children to a crazed gunman, and because of him, they are getting harassed by his tin-foil hat brigade who thinks it never happened. That one family that’s filing a defamation suit has had to move seven times since 2012 because these nuts keep following them.

In my opinion, I think the move was justified because they have been repeatedly called out for spreading false information and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants. I lost count how many times InfoWars crossed the line on that.

While I do not agree with those who support banning refugees, I feel that, based on past discussion, it is possible to argue any point of view without resorting to using racial/ethnic slurs, or attacking them with false allegations or nefarious twisting of current events (e.g. assuming that all refugees are rapists, or using a particular image to make a allegation that ignores the context).

I do not support censorship (remember my opposition to the Investigatory Powers Act?), but in my opinion, freedom of expression and inciting racial hatred are different matters, which is why there are exceptions in the ECHR (Articles 10.2 and Article 17) to ensure that everyone can enjoy the rights and freedoms without fear, the latter being the important point.

The main discussion point is: what are your thoughts on InfoWars, Alex Jones, and their conduct? How has it influenced discussion on the internet in general?

Should NYT and Huffington post be banned for their editors frequent anti-male and anti-white statements and the articles along those lines, including those openly calling for hatred of men? Difference between allowing the sites to exist, and allowing them to spread their material on your platform, is the point.
I also find it funny you try to poison the well at the end there instead of acknowledging these publications and their misandry, including the articles where they call explicitly for the hatred of men, which is likewise blatant.

Infowars has been banned from facebook, not banned from existing, and we're asking why these news sites aren't held to the same standard.

Back when I used to use Facebook, one of my friends would constantly post InfoWars stuff and other right-wing conspiracy theory crap (and took it very seriously; I even once responded to one of her posts with an article from Snopes and she flipped out and said that they are a left-wing propaganda site trying to cover up the fact that Obama is a secret Muslim/socialist/communist/foreigner/AntiChrist).

I ended up unfriending her because I just couldn’t take it anymore.
