The right wanted to preserve the monarchy as long as it did what the assembly wanted. That's jsut a less extreme version of the left - get rid ofthe monarchy.

Feudalism came about in the chaos that followed the Roman Empire's collapse. People couldn't rely on Caesar's Legions to protect them anymore so they had to seek protection in the form of local rulers. That was the reason feudalism came about in Europe. And it worked for a while and did an even better job of protecting Europe from outside invasion than Rome did.
