Sweden: More than just furniture(Government Found)

Postby Shrillland » Fri Jul 06, 2018 10:42 am

Well folks, in just over two months(September 9), Sweden will be going to the polls to decide their next government. With the current populist wave crashing across Europe, and Sweden having one of its more infamous parties(Sweden Democrats), this is a vote to watch. There are 349 seats available in the Riksdag on a national list and on 29 regional lists. A party needs 4% to get on a national list and 12% for a regional one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_general_election,_2018

Without further ado, let's meet the parties that are likely to cross the threshold or are currently in the Riksdag:

Social Democrats(S)-led by current PM Stefan Löfven: Centre-left, Social Democratic

Sweden Democrats(SD)-led by Jimmie Åkesson: Right wing, Swedish Nationalist, Eurosceptic,Right populist, anti-immigrant, Social and National Conservative

Moderates(M)-led by Ulf Kristersson: Centre-right, Liberal Conservative

Centre Party(C)-led by Annie Lööf: Centrist, Agrarian, Soft Classical Liberal, Decentralist

Left Party(V)-led by Jonas Sjöstedt: Left-wing, Socialist, Feminist, Eurosceptic

Liberals(L)-led by Jan Björklund: Centre-right, Pro-European, Social Liberal, Conservative Liberal

Greens(MP)-led by Gustav Fridolin and Isabella Lövin: Centre-left, Soft Eurosceptic, Green Policies

Christian Democrats(KD)-led by Ebba Busch Thor: Centre-right, Christian Democratic, Social Conservative

So, NSG, who do you support?

I still support the Social Democrats as always. I also hope that the major parties will stand together to keep the Sweden Democrats away from the reigns of power. We've already seen the bad that's come of it in the rest of Europe, Sweden doesn't need to join the dark tide.

I would support either the Moderate Party or the Christian Democrats.

I'd support the Swedish Democrats, or the Moderates, but mostly the SD.

The Sweden Democrats are most certainly going to gain a significant number of seats, even if they don't win.

It's kind of obvious that after years of quasi-uncontrolled immigration (leading to Sweden now having nearly 25% of its population being foreign-born) and a generous amount of blind eyes to the rising societal issues related to said immigration might just cause people to go "Mmh, maybe, just goddamn maybe our current ruling party is not listening to us".

Just sayin'.

I hope the Socialdemocrats will win the electionions, keep the SD out of power and Sweden remaining a humanitarian super power. Sweden needs to continue accepting refugees

They're the only really socially conservative and nationalist party of the bunch, so this isn't really a surprise.

Immigration from the Islamic world isn't as big as people think. A lot of Swedish immigrants actually come from Finland, Poland, and the Balkans. Of the 10 biggest foreign-born populations, nearly 560,000 come from Muslim-majority nations(including Bosnia, which isn't what one would call a stereotypical state) and 360,000 come from non-Muslim European nations. If we expand it to the top 20 nations, it becomes 665,000 from non-Muslim countries and 605,000 from Muslim-majority ones.

None of the other parties are willing to form a coalition with the Sweden Democrats because they are so extreme and morally questionable.

Although I've put my hopes on that, I'm not so sure that'll be the case anymore, especially with them polling a clear second above the Moderates. No one wanted to form coalitions with the Freedom Parties in Austria or the Netherlands until they held the balance of power, ditto M5S in Italy. With the Sweden Democrats potentially holding that balance this time around, I can't say for sure that there won't be some kind of coalition with them at its head.

The way they handled immigration in recent years was particularly disastrous, though.

Aren't the Christian Democrats socially conservative? And how can a part really be conservative if they are actively opposed to elitism and hierarchy?
