Probably one of those random rebel soldiers in the corridor at the end of Rogue one, because that would just be typical.

What, no Palpatine?

I enjoy hamming it up, making obscure references to historical figures that may or may not be just shit I did earlier, and plan to use a trade crisis brewing currently in the UK to reorganize it into the third british empire.

Also, I am the senate.

Ewan McGregor is Scottish.. that accent was annoying..

Yet it is sinister.. the truth is if you aggregate our choices you can make some pretty specific advertising that hits our triggers. To think we're not susceptible to manipulation is foolish, and there's a large degree going on. We might say politics has always been about manipulation but not to such a targeted degree where information is not only freely given by us but also stolen.

Again, I find it ironic that most people have gone with their choice of character, even if it doesn't reflect them per se their choice indicates a personality.

I will say I'm.. surprised that Luke is leading here..

So, only who Facebook chooses to sell data to should be allowed to use it?

Then there would be no such thing as Facebook at all. Targeted marketing is the point.

Last I heard FB usually does the targeted advertising in-house, where they collect the data and are given ads that they then match. Not of course, that I'm opposed to FB dying.

When sphere prisme cubes leaks first came out there was an extension that would attach anomalous and apparently list triggering data to text posts on some website to try and trip up data collection. Do you think think this practice could make a person useless to data collection businesses, or if this kind of thing would be measured out by algorithms in the near future if not already?

A couple years ago i read an advertiser's demographic profile used in teaching marketing, and was surprised to find that there were only a couple types of 18-24 year olds. I thought that made the advertising tactics less threatening then, but i wonder to what degree people actually fall into the categories whether they believe they do or not.

Also i would like to signal to the public that i am Ki-Adi-Mundi.

They sell the data as an aggregate. Remember as far as Facebook is concerned, you are the product.

Oh I'm well aware that people who use FB are the product, not the customer. Didn't realize they sold the data on a regular basis though

Typically maybe.. specifically what happened here is a security company created an app that asked users to submit to a profile test for which they'd be paid. It took in some millions, but then it also scraped all the details of the user's friends as well.. their likes, posts and etc.,

Then Cambridge Analytica bought this and created algorithms against some 50M people collected in the US and created likely voting behaviour by cross referencing behaviour and thus could target adds accordingly. I noted the Liberal Democrats being open to new things hence you can frame an add 'here's a different way of looking at things..' while pushing a conservative agenda.

It gets much more insidious than that, they had a program scraping data that was against FB policy, and FB could detect it but didn't do anything about it.

And more..

Yet similarly all those 'what kind of XX are you' questions one sees on FB are simply profile gatherers. If you answer, say, Han Solo.. it doesn't mean I identify you as Han Solo but I check all the others who wrote that and find correlations in behaviour that allow me to influence you based on your persona.
