Is it a necessity that a non-breaded sandwich have ice cream?

I reject the notion that an ice cream sandwich is a sandwich. The name is an intentional misnomer for humorous effect. It is a satire on the sandwich. If I were to take two flat rocks and wedge some dirt between them, could I call it a sandwich? No. Structure is not everything. Ingredients must be part of the definition. Therefore, an ice cream "sandwich" is not relevant to this discussion.

Nor, really, are Oreos or other sandwich cookies/biscuits.
