The government is probably in some form of crisis, as it would likely lack the ability to communicate with officers and coordinate resources. This is a serious issue, and one that could take half of a year to fix

Okay everyone, there has been 7 fatalities in Dominica so far. However, they're saying that there is probably more.

Trinidad and Tobago has sent down relief efforts and Defense force persons. Antigua, while we're still trying to take care of Barbuda, also sent down defense personnel, ro help with the rescue efforts. Not much, but still. We're also planning to take in children, if needed.

I've read that article earlier, and it's a bit shocking to realize that people need help, yet help can't arrive since there's no power anywhere on the island (if we're only counting help on the island).

Local authorities and National Guard are out and the work of clearing roads has begun. They're trying to reestablish communication by phone tonight (if at all possible), so if you have family there and haven't been able to get a hold of them, be patient. Cell towers and phone lines are down. There's a curfew instituted from 6pm to 6am until the emergency passes. Escalations and robberies have been reported because, of course, asshats will be asshats.

I also hope that PR gets the funding required to upgrade their ageing grid. It's not good for them (or anyone) to have such an old grid that goes out like this and I'm pretty sure (not 100% though) that it would cost less in the long run to repair and maintain were it upgraded.
