Aye, but the War Doctor had some issues with calling himself the Doctor. I try to include him as the Doctor because of that.

Umm... no? It's just abnormal for a female doctor. Some people would prefer a male doctor. It's just preference.San Lumen wrote:What's your take NSG on this history making moment?
It's one season to a TV show. Not really something to put in the history books.

What is there inherent to males that females do not have, and that makes them more appealing to watch as the protagonist of a TV series?

I don't know. It's a TV show. I don't even watch it, it's just some people prefer a male doctor. Nothing more to it. Doesn't make them sexist.

An opinion should be constructed with facts, no? "I just don't like it" is no statement to build a policy from. Disliking a character just because she is female sounds pretty sexist to me.

Well it's a good thing Doctor Who isn't constructing national policy. Some people prefer male because it makes them more at home in the Doctor Who universe. Calling that sexist is like calling people who didn't like the Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare setting anti-technological progress.

Not wanting to play a sci-fi game is hardly comparable to not wanting to watch a woman in a lead role.

The ratings are tanking?
Yes. Ratings last season were the lowest they've ever been. The last Christmas Special, which usually sees more viewers than its accompanying series, had viewing figures that would have been considered average for any episode in earlier series. The rest of the series was even lower, with UK viewing figures not even reaching 5m for some episodes.
I don't agree with the Horror Channel's assertion that ratings will tank with Whittaker (in fact, I expect they'll pick up for a little while at least), but making snarky remarks about facts you haven't bothered to investigate and overusing your favourite smiley doesn't make you look good.

I don't know why, but a Doctor with a southern twang would just strike me as endlessly awesome.
OR MAYBE AN AUSSIE!
Just as the Harry Potter universe must be set in/alongside Great Britain, so should Doctor Who. Why? Because when we try to copy awesome UK shows here, they suck ass.
Compare the original Fawlty Towers starring John Cleese, and the copycat Fawlty Towers starring John Larroquette.
No, don't. The American version was a horrid abortion that can't compare to the original.
