I said it a few pages ago, Erdogan will come back as emboldened as never.

oh btw i'm arresting you for insulting a public official on for his duty for implying erdogan is or will become a dictator as a result of this. please fly to turkey for your trial. i understand that the current situation makes it hard to do that, so i will commute your trial until we capture the airports at least.

America didn't immediately come out against the coup. So the fact that it has now suggests that the US believes it has failed, and there is no point backing it.

He still claimed he supports Erdogan, or the democratically elected government. Will he actually uses military to Turkey?

No, the US military isn't going to get involved. He issued a statement and that's it.

Sorry, foreign backers. Sorry, military autocrats. Sorry, Europhile white Turks.

Erdogan stays.

Must be hell of annoying for the soldiers to try differentiate whose on government's side and who is part of the coup faction.

Incredibly disappointed by Europe right now. We're getting fucked over by Erdogan that badly and then we just let an opportunity to finally get fucking rid of that demagogue float by.

It's not a good idea to support coups. Especially ones that are doomed to fail. You have to, I believe the term is, hedge your bets.

Disgusting... a man saying he supports freedom condemns an army trying to overthrow a dictator that feels so insulted by satire of himself.
Though there are not such great memories of the earlier dictatorship in Turkey, when they invaded Cyprus and ethnically cleansed the population of the north. :/
Pro: tolerance, individualism, technocratism, democratism, freedom, freedom of speech and moderate religious expression, the ban on hate speech, constitutional monarchism, the Rhine model
Against: intolerance, radicalism, strong discrimination, populism, fascism, nazism, communism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, absolutarianism, fundamentalism, strong religious expression, strong nationalism, police states

I think it's harder for them to control their triggers, to not shoot civilians and cause chaos.

Can the outcome be that easily decided at this point? It seems like all the details surrounding the forces behind the movement are sketchy.

Actually I believe he was in Southern Turkey but he managed to bring himself into safety. He spent the last couple of hours in a jet above Europe.
O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.

Over the hills and far away.

He hasn't condemned anyone. He didn't even mention Erdogan by name,

Obama is recognizing that as of now, the coup hasn't won, and so there is no point supporting it.
