Killing somebody and loving them are generally mutually exclusive, especially when you don't even know them, and don't you dare try and pass this off as some sort of "Christians love everyone" bullshit.

The ridiculousness of the statement still stands.
You can't kill somebody "out of love" over religious beliefs. Killing someone over something as ridiculous as that is not a display of love, it's a display of extremism and vanity.

And it's still contrary to the verses I've provided.

No, you don't get it. You let the hate you and you love them back. It's a difficult faith, but people do manage it. Please try harder next time.

But it's so much easier to just kill everybody! You don't have to deal with things like people speaking other languages or not having a cross in their living room!

Indeed.

There's a quote that floats around the internet that says something like, "you know you've made god in your own image when your god hates all the same people you do."
Seems relevant in cases like this.

It's not contrary. MAtthew 5:3-12 is referring to the character of people and not on the foreign policy of sovereign states. Gods character is seen in his wars and genocides against Canaanites that was pure kill them all with the exeception of virgins forced to be wifes. First genocide in the history of mankind as a matter of fact, God is a warrior God and his words shall be spread and believed by most people on every continent and every country and every city with heathens being killed left and right.

And for war to be enacted, people must be willing to participate. No upstanding follower of Christ would participate in the barbarity of "holy wars."

Gods character is seen in his wars and genocides against Canaanites that was pure kill them all with the exeception of virgins forced to be wifes.

This isn't the ancient world and we're not ancient Israelites. What god told the Israelites to do thousands of years ago is not relevant to how followers of Christ should conduct themselves today.
Keep in mind too, that the story has less to do with spreading "god's word" and more to do with taking over land.

Not to mention the whole story is morally reprehensible, but that's another story...

[...] God is a warrior God and his words shall be spread and believed by most people on every continent and every country and every city with heathens being killed left and right.

...that's a pretty sad and sadistic view of go to be brutally honest.

The bottom line is that Christ has not called us to war. Christ has not called us to kill to spread his Gospel. Christ repeatedly made statements that peace and non-aggression should be the conduct of his followers. God himself has not called followers of Christ to take up arms in a physical war. Therefore, Christians taking up arms against "heathens" is completely unscriptural and I've already argued this point. How you wish to accept it is up to you.

Mostly the opposite, as far as I can see. Most of the thread has turned to a platform for Crusader-wannabes to brandish their swords for the glorious holy divine righteous Ninth Crusade.

FYI, religious extremism is awful, regardless of the religion being preached. I feel sick reading the article, and I feel sicker reading the thread's blood curdling holy war-mongering.

Well, historically, Christians did burn people at the stake. It's been a while for that, though. (Not all Christians, of course, there weren't nearly enough heretics for everybody to have one. :p )

I look forward to the day when the Middle East area gets its act together so people can look even more like idiots with their bullshit anti-Muslim crap. Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Middle East turns into a superpower region like Europe someday?

Only if they've knocked off the legal decapitations and imprisonment for being raped. The thought of the "modern" Middle East as a superpower is terrifying.

Well said. We should do our best to apply Christ's teachings to our foreign policy, but if we cannot, we must remember that he speaks of individuals, not empires.

The pakistani government is rather apathetic to the plights of the minorities, remember how they wanted to have separate statehood for the Muslims
