What is everybody's opinion on this? I personally am against it. My opinion can be summed up in this video:

copenhagen is a pretty cool guy. eh fights climate change and doesn't afraid of anything.

On a more serious note, I wholeheartedly approve of anything that erodes national sovereignty in the name of environmentalism. Two birds with one stone! The world keeps going longer, and individual nations are subject to normative restrictions on their ability to act unilaterally against the well-being of others.

It hasn't been signed yet, but basically it would cede the U.S. sovereignty(Our constitution) to make a world government. Which I love my country and constitution, and if this gets signed by the United States, I would be obligated as a U.S. citizen(As every citizen would be) to fight against the federal government and install a new one.

The reason why it hasn't been signed yet is because it hasn't been presented yet. It doesn't even exist except as a draft. :p

lol, That's right, but if this thing does become a full on treaty, and it gets signed, the work of not only our founding fathers but the work of so many people to bring freedom to the world, and help bring down the U.S.S.R. would be for nothing. And I don't know about y'all, but I like have a constitution that says the government can not take my freedoms away.

Okay, you're all wrong. The Copenhagen treaty right now is essentially a bunch of "If climate change might be potentially happening sometime in the future then maybe if everyone agreed we could do some unidentified thing that wouldn't be very powerful, but would be powerful enough to save the world. The End

Its not really going to kill our Constitution. Besides, NO treaty eventually reached would do that, all it would do is require our government to try and reduce our dependence on foreign oil and other fossil fuels, reduce fuel costs in the long run, and preserve the ecosystem in which we live. Is that too much to ask?

Everyone with half a brain knows that the "ecosystem" is just a Socialist code word for scrapping the sacred Constitution of the United States, which was given to us by our devoutly Christian Founding Fathers. If God didn't want us to use fossil fuels, why did he create them? I cannot agree more with that eminent philosopher Ann Coulter, who said, in regards to these foreign countries controlling our precious petroleum reserves, "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them all to Christianity."

Well, I have indeed read the draft for myself, and if a world government(those words are in the draft by the way) is formed, it will indeed makethe constitution null and void if the draft isn't changed. Also, it would require bigger nations such as the U.S. and the U.K. to give money to 3rd world nations to help them with climate control. This is wrong because I work hard for my money, and I don't want some government in B.F.E. getting a hold of it. If they want my they cn set up a charity and ask. Also, this whole climate change crap is just that, crap. This has been proven time and time again that the Earth fluctuates in temperature and there is nothing we can do about it. CO2 levels rise because temperature rises, and temperature fluctuates. Also, it's snowing where I live, which is in South Texas, so I don't think the Earth is going to melt anytime soon.

Well, since this is your thread, how's about you post a link to the draft so we can read it for ourselves?

As for "your tax money," too bad. Once the US government takes your taxes, it isn't your money any longer, it's the government's money. You're entitled to complain about what they do with it and you even have ways to change what they do with it, but you ought to get the idea out of your head that it's still yours. It isn't.

Please provide sources for global climate change being completely due to natural processes, with no human contributions. Oh, and the fact that it's snowing in South Texas doesn't mean climate change is crap. It means that you've confused the weather with climate change.

There's no such thing, there never shall be any such thing, the poor countries and China will demand money and only Britain'll be thick enough to give any, and as for 'world government' please see the UN.

This is absolute bullshit since the only text from this "treaty" that's been released is one written by NGOs that they would like to see passed. :palm:

It is a mockery, just like all previous treaties were.
The thing is that IF one accepts the idea that global climate change is real, caused by men AND reversible if we act now - we cannot just sign a few agreements and then continue merrily with our lives almost the same as we always did. There is no point. The politicians might feel good about themselves, but it would comparable to spitting at a huge fire: useless.

No, if one accepts the ideas underlying the convention we would need a fundamental change in how our societies function. The whole concept of "commuting" for instance should be destroyed for the overwhelming majority of people. Living over 20 km from your work should be forbidden for most occupations. And that is just one example.

But noone would accept that kind of change, especially not overnight, so it won't happen. Which makes it pointless,
