Not really. I carried both the MK14 and the 240. er have used .30-06 all the way up to the Vietnam War. The only real problem would be weight and a lot can't handle recoil of .30-06, but as a select issue weapon in a Platoon it would be a fine compliment to both 5.56 and 7.62Nato.

It appears that the army is aiming to replace the M4 with a 7.62 weapon.

From what I read on Army times and a couple other news sites they are looking at larger intermediate rifle rounds and battle rifles again

I mean thats cute and all the Field Artillery could use new guns instead of the fucking M109A7. All that money being misallocated (i.e. put into a trashcan and set on fire) to dicking around about rifles and boolets could be put to use restarting the XM2000 Crusader project.

it could also get injected into the M1A3 development we've been promised for odd on 10 years now.

Cal Fire says gunfire started fire near Yosemite.

I mean, you could start a fire with tracers (which are already illegal in Cali for everything but shotguns...) or blackpowder rifles spraying burning powder all over, but how the hell can you prove that someone was firing tracers or a blackpowder rifle without an eyewitness? And the fact that they're offering a reward for information makes me think that they don't have any witnesses.

I know right. It does annoy me when people talk out of their asses when it comes to guns. My dad works in insurance and manages a program called carrygaurd. People have given him shit for the policy already

Also what's your favorite canceled us weapons program? Mines the xm 312

Some early stuff from before the M14, such as the WAR and such where pretty cool.

The EM1 and 2 as well.

And some others whose names I can't remember right now.

The M14/M16/AR would have less "and it took a bajillion shoots to kill them!" stories if they just switched to Mk262 instead of giving everyone M855, aka, perhaps the worst 5.56 cartridge ever made.

even front sites, what a lot of people don't realize in a high stress enviroment is probably going to be point and click not " Well let me make sure my sites are lined up first"

instead of spending a ton of money on a red dot, a really nice strobe-light on the front of your pistol would be EXCELLENT for home defense. You can even get light/laser combos.

yes because a laser is still far easier to focus on with both eyes open. It's just a suggestion.

Why?

Power requirements and size.

A laser rifle capable of killing someone would be humongous.

Isn't a laser sight on one of those things people suggest for de-escalation? Since it's one of the shorthands for "don't do anything stupid, there's a gun on you" like chambering a round.

I would think issueing verbal commands while pointing the weapon at them would be more effective, but I've never been in such a situation.
