Not really. I carried both the MK14 and the 240. er have used .30-06 all the way up to the Vietnam War. The only real problem would be weight and a lot can't handle recoil of .30-06, but as a select issue weapon in a Platoon it would be a fine compliment to both 5.56 and 7.62Nato.

From what I read on Army times and a couple other news sites they are looking at larger intermediate rifle rounds and battle rifles again

I mean, you could start a fire with tracers (which are already illegal in Cali for everything but shotguns...) or blackpowder rifles spraying burning powder all over, but how the hell can you prove that someone was firing tracers or a blackpowder rifle without an eyewitness? And the fact that they're offering a reward for information makes me think that they don't have any witnesses.

instead of spending a ton of money on a red dot, a really nice strobe-light on the front of your pistol would be EXCELLENT for home defense. You can even get light/laser combos.

I would think issueing verbal commands while pointing the weapon at them would be more effective, but I've never been in such a situation.
