Probably because the reason why they left China was because of the political situation. Most of the overseas Chinese are descendants of or are immigrants themselves. The main reason is either the dictatorial communist regime or, for those who are descendants of these immigrants, due to the tyranny of the monarchy.

Why would they leave China in the first place? It is the Second largest economy in the World, I get why the Spaniards are leaving for France and Belgium but Chinese from China?

They are patriotic in a different way. They want their nation to be very different from what it is now. I think there are many loyalists to the monarchy living overseas. Otherwise, I think they would rather have the Chinese in Taiwan set-up a semi-democratic system rather than a one-party dictatorial system.

They are patriotic in a different way. They want their nation to be very different from what it is now. I think there are many loyalists to the monarchy living overseas.
