Of course you can. Religious teaching mustn't be funded by public money, however, which is what this bill does. Competition among schools ... to what purpose? Public schools are not for-profit institutions. Traditionally they were funded by property taxes in the areas they served. That's less prevalent now, and most simply receive money from the local and state education departments based on their needs. When I was growing up, you went to the elementary and junior high schools that served your part of town and everyone ended up at the one high school. Obviously different places have different rules, but there was no shopping around for schools. I don't think that's a bad thing, necessarily, but it's not the same as finding the grocery store you like best. There simply aren't that many schools.

So no, it's not us stifling choice. It's the conservatives in Louisiana finding a way to funnel tax dollars to private religious schools, frankly.

I'm asking you to supply proof that textbooks are devoted to snubbing and destroying religion. Because this is what you claimed is true. I find it hard to believe and I won't until you can show you weren't lying.

Funny, given that most social studies curricula in public schools regarding world history include units on the various religions one is likely to come across.....

If it can provide a better education for less cost, isn't that a better use of the taxpayers dollars?

That cost is based on a small population of students and I bet most if not all don't have issues.

They also haven't been around long enough to measure the long term results.

Their costs will increase once they take on all the students.

And that's one of the main criticisms of charter schools, they aren't scalable to "real world" numbers. You'd have to have on on every other street corner to make them work an urban school district.

Well of COURSE there's plenty of hills! That's what prevented Katrina from flooding out New Orleans and killing countless people!

Looking at the New Orleans Pilot program, Lousiana seems to be doing a good thing.
This is provided they run the program the same way. 7% increase in test scores in voucher students, vs 3% increase for the city overall.

After hacking your computer and cross refrencing with the Fed data base it says your lower class.

Northern Itasca wrote:Eh. I think that "privatizing" education could help, however, I think that our education system would be much more improved by actually holding teachers accountable for their students' performance. Unfortunately that will never happen unless the communist teachers' unions are destroyed. The American public education system is currently a joke. It's more of a liberal indoctrination tool rather than a true education system. When high school students have abosolutely no clue as to how the United States government functions, you know somethings wrong.

Are you going to hold teachers accountable for the kids who are kept out of school to work because their parents can't keep a roof over their family's head otherwise?

How about for crack babies, are they accountable for their learning problems?

How about the pregnant/young parents who stay home half the time because no one can care of their kid. Accountable for that too?

How about the kids who don't come to school because they're high off their ass. Should teachers be accountable for that too?

Or the kids in bad neighborhoods who don't come because they might get shot or shivved on their way. How about them>?

How about homeless kids who can't get proper rest in a shelter while trying to prevent their belongings being stolen or being assaulted. Should teachers be responsible there?

Kids who come from other countries and were illiterate in their first language?

Assholes who are addicted to their cell phones or hall walking, or just plain not coming to school, should teachers be held accountable for them too?

Enlighten me.

Article mentions the New Orleans pilot program, and better results on test scores there. New Orleans is the largest city in the state.
