Why? Well... that's complicated.
There's a list of animals/animal types that I won't eat. I actually don't know everything on it. I just know that something is on it when I think about eating it and go "Eh... Nah."

What I do know is on it is:
Some Service animals (Horses, Dairy Cows, etc.)
Predatory animals (Wolves, Lions, Pumas, etc.)
Pet Animals (Dogs, Cats, Goldfish, Ferrets, etc.).

There are too many wild horses in Austalia. Kill them and eat them (or put them in pet food).

No need to let good energy go to waste. Horses are not really different from cows or sheep. They may be a bit less efficent in weight gain as they are not a typical consumption animal but that could change in time.

I had horse in Europe, in Denmark, raw, coarse ground, with a horseradish garnish.

Here's my opinion. Horses are dumb. Dumber than most animals we eat. I guess if they're killed mostly painlessly (or at least quickly) and they taste good, why not?
