Yes it would be low paying. Picking crops is minimum wage work with little benefits. Its the only way for it to be profitable. You can't just raise prices to cover the cost because then people won't buy the product.

The government (Congress specifically) is dysfunctional. And California can't change federal law and is in no way "bypassing" it with this legislation.

There are still imports, so what it comes down to is (a) foreign workers on US farms, vs (b) foreign workers on foreign farms. Surely (a) is better for the US economy.

Just to be clear about what you mean by "legal immigrants" ... would you require them to have gained citizenship (naturalized) or would legal residency be sufficient?

Is there a way to answer the poll without playing into the conservative rhetoric? Yes, giving student aid to undocumented immigrant students is an incentive to immigrate to the United States. This is a good thing.

Perhaps I should of phrased that better. What I meant is that people won't buy the product at the increased price, they'll buy a similar product for a lower price. Which if the crackdown was nationwide, would be as you indicated would be imported, we already import a good deal of our produce, so it wouldn't change much.
