Obviously nuclear weapons should receive the prize for their role in drastically reducing the casualties of war the world over.

Because he is a liberating hero. Trust me, NSG led me into Juche, from a link to My Socialist Country. It made me get brainwashed. Viva la Juche!

Clearly NSG took the nominations and the poll seriously.

Kim Jong II for is efforts for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.

Now that's strongly a matter of personal opinion. I think those joke nominations you mentioned should be removed. Matter of fact, the poll should only include the three proper nominees: Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Il. I mean, seriously, you want to nominate a convicted criminal, an American and a soldier from a country known for promoting drugs, prostitution and slavery? For a PEACE prize?

Well, actually, given the original request of 5 nominations to pass to the poll phase, the "proper nominees" would have been:
Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (USA): 9 nominations
Kim Jong Il (DPRK): 7 nominations
Aung San Suu Kyi (Burma-Myanmar): 5 nominations
Julian Paul Assange (Australia): 5 nominations

I don't think the Mortenson nomination was serious :P

What worries me about this thread is the possibility that the DPRK news agency will pick up on this as a genuine award for the Dear Leader - if he wins.

Might be worth monitoring those DPRK news feeds from Japan.

I guess CIA will have two Aussies they want to ship to Guantanamo then.

But other than that, the results might actually be pretty good. The Dear Leader might chill out a bit.

Why does that worry you?

Not only will NS become INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED FOR PRESENTING A SATIRICAL PEACE PRICE TO KIM JONG IL,

WE CAN ALSO FLAUNT THE FACT THAT THE UN SENT US A CEASE AND DESIST!

However I am willing to request Risottia to disqualify Kim Jong Il on the grounds of human rights violations. In addition, I wish to contest that North Korea is not one of the safest countries to go on holiday to, because saying anything actually puts a tourist at risk of expulsion or even imprisonment. In addition it is unpredictable as to how willing Kim is going to unleash nuclear weapons. The recent events prove it so.

Hereby with the arguments stated I request the disqualification of Kim Jong Il from the NSG Peace Prize.
