He's reached the next stage of grief. I'm sure he's not the only one that feels like it.
An inability to cope with drastic, unrelenting change is not that uncommon. Some people handle it better than others. While we are a very adaptable species, the mind can sometimes struggle to catch up. Personally I don't cope well with moving. Takes me a long time to feel at ease in a new apartment/home.
