I am neutral and am not agreeing with Sai, but I never heard of the day being celebrated until now. In fact, I always thought it was considered a hollow victory.

We had Jim Crow for over a hundred years, and some of its legacy is still prevalent in the South. Reconstruction was a wasted chance.

Edit: I do think Juneteenth deserves to be celebrated, but nonetheless we should remind ourselves the fight isn't over.

reconstruction ended as part of a compromise due to the disputed outcome of the 1876 election in which Tilden was likely the rightful winner.

And the abolition wasn't completely implemented until June 19th, 1865. So, again, is the abolition of slavery not something that we should celebrate?

December 6th is when it should be celebrated, not June 19th.
