From what I understand (myself being a dyed-in-the-wool Western Washington liberal), SoCal has both left and right extremes.

Well in my experience, the people I've met can be pretty liberal to mildly conservative. Of course, I've read news and reports that there is a sizable and scary presence of neo-nazis scattered around my area. At least they only rear their ugly heads during rallys. Where I live, people are pretty damn tolerant even though this a red county

Same here. Our Republicans and Reds are really decent, with a few exceptions.

While the United States and many other countries are moving forward in LGBT rights, Russia is moving backwards. I personally wouldn't be surprised if the Russian government criminalizes homosexual sex within three years.
