regardless, this thread is mostly about anything and everything about the Grand Theft Auto series, obviously made by the one and only, rockstar games. ranging all the way too the first installments, to VI, characters, story and lore, and general, etc.

There's an element to which I somewhat feel like GTA 6 has missed its own launch date by now. Don't get me wrong, it will probably be a massive phenomenon when it finally releases but if it had launched 3 years ago I think the entire world would have lost its mind. Now we have been making the "everything happened before GTA 6" thing for so long that people just quietly expect it now.

There's an element to which I somewhat feel like GTA 6 has missed its own launch date by now. Don't get me wrong, it will probably be a massive phenomenon when it finally releases but if it had launched 3 years ago I think the entire world would have lost its mind. Now we have been making the "everything happened before GTA 6" thing for so long that people just quietly expect it now.

I agree. The wait is not exciting anymore for many of the players. It does not have the period of euphoria that the weeks before Silksong’s release had. Maybe this is because Rockstar conditioned the players to think that it was just around the corner. It'll still be a hit, no doubt.

The delays are in my favor because I need time to get myself a new laptop lol (yes I know there's no PC version at launch, that buys me an extra year or two)
But also, the delays make my expectations higher, because that means more time to fix bugs and maybe introduce new features

Of course, on some level it is inevitable. Rockstar made the second and third most sold video games of all time in the 2010s, there is going to be an absolutely unfathomable amount of expectation placed on them to match it. If they mess up GTA 6, disaster isn't even an appropriate word for the magnitude of what would happen.

as much as people hate the delays, rockstar has been doing it for polish, alot of these other game companies have alot of unfair deadlines and then a game comes out undercooked, i generally prefer delays over a shit unfinished game

Unfortunately this is no longer the norm
Companies used to take time before releasing games, but the end result (for the most part) has minimal to no bugs
Now they can release games in various states of completion, then patch the hell out of it later
